Unfortunately, data is the industry now. There is so much money in user data and mass collections of it that these sorts of stories come up. Facebook was willing to pay people $20 a month to see all there personal data, multiply that by how many users they wanted to target and it adds up. I'm questioning my use of Facebook everyday, though, I don't interact with anyone on it, I refined my feed significantly and just use it for news to be honest, just browsing. Shudder to think what they have on me just from that.

That is not really the same as what is being tested in this news article though.

In this article Facebook gains access to data within the apps. In your test, chances are it could just be something like pinging the server and nothing else really happening.

 

It's bad that apps sends anything to Facebook, but what they send is a very important detail. Also, are you sure that it was actually the apps sending data? I don't have PiHole anymore and have very little experience with it, but I don't think or see how it could detect which app makes which request.

I mean I can see graphs.facebook.com and other analytics.facebook requests which is more than a ping. Also yes I can see the IP address of my phone and just look at the requests it is making. So when I launch the game or interact with it I can see it trying to send analytical data and the pihole blocking it.
