I have the change to get my hands of a replaced Intel® Xeon® Bronze 3104 Processor (replaced in an academic workstation to increase the computational power)

 

Do you guys have any suggestions on what I could build using this CPU as a base?

Find a server chipset (C something) that works with this CPU first, then search for a board that has this chipset. Otherwise this CPU is just a paperweight.

That chip would serve for computing, so you may want to get a good CUDA card, or you can just.. do things with it. haha

Given the cost of a current gen server motherboard (LGA 3647) it's not even worth recycling that chip for home use. You would get better performance per dollar buying an entirely new motherboard and CPU than you would buying just a board for that CPU.

Id probably not try to use it. Its a 1.7ghz 6 cores without ht or turbo. A i3 is faster and is much cheaper. These really only exist to make the base price for servers and workstations cheap and don't really make sense if you care about cpu performance at all. 

 

The cheapest board I can find on newegg is about 240 for a open box, and you can get a i3 + board for cheaper and that would be faster aswell.

If you don't already own a compatible motherboard, I hate to say, the processor is basically worthless. 6 core 6 thread means no Hyperthreading, and it's really more of a low-end chip to begin with.
