Hi Folks,

 

looking to build my first computer from scratch and would appreciate any recommendations on parts to get/change from the list below:

 

CPU - Intel core i5-3470s

Motherboard - Intel DQ77CP

RAM - 2x 4 GB PC14900 DDR3 1866MHz

GPU - EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 2GB GDDR5

Power supply - unbranded 450W

Boot drive - Kingston 120GB 2.5" SATA III

 

Looking to play most modern games on medium graphics or so, just looking to upgrade from a 5 year old laptop. Budget is kinda a big deal as I want to keep it as cheap as possible so any help appreciated :)

I think the most glaring issue is you power supply. Definitely get one from a reliable manufacturer, your whole PC is on the line otherwise. Check out EVGA's B stock if you need a cheap one or something.

Unbranded PSU is not something I like to hear, that means unverified (and usually bad) quality. A bird in the hand and all that, get a Corsair CXm unit as a base.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

 

How many watts do I need? ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explained, group reg is bad

Start with this or go with a 2400G for a little more power and then toss in a dedicated GPU down the line. This will definitely get you medium/high graphics at 720p or 1080p depending on the game

Budget at most would be around £300 all in, kid on the way and need to keep costs reasonable to explain to the missus
