Upgrading, need to know if I have enough watts

EvenFarther

Hey so I am planning to upgrade to a VR gaming PC, but I am getting the graphics card first and then the rest later on. I am wondering if my current setup is able to handle the GPU I'm getting.

Current setup:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-78lmt-usb3

GPU: AMD Radeon R7 260x, 2GB

PCU: AMD Fx-6300, six-core

RAM: 8BG, DDR3, one stick

PSU: 500W (Actually it's 450W, dunno why I wrote 500W)

HDD: 1TB

Getting:

GPU: GeForce GTX 1070

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814126112&ignorebbr=1

I know that I will need a better mobo and cpu so that's fine, same with ram. Is my PSU good enough for this GPU upgrade? If it isn't then I can get a 650 W one along with it.

You have enough power, but how about the make and model of the PSU?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Hold up, I just looked and it's actually 450W. The model # is IP-S450CQ2-0 G and I don't know what you mean by "make". If this helps then it is a Cybertron PC

A picture of the sticker would be nice. 450 watts is still enough.

450w plenty fine.

Quality could be an issue, if you have the funds upgrade to a better quality model.

Same thing goes for efficiency.  I have no idea what model you have.

Oof, not liking the look of that. I would recommend an upgrade, click on my PSU in my signature, it'll take you to the tier list. Get tier C and above if you can help it.

I actually don't mind some generic's in specific instances.

For your instance, if you are thinking to keep that PSU permanently, I would definitely recommend a new PSU with better reviews on efficiency and quality and life expectancy.

I would not get that GTX 1070 for that price new.  That is a complete ripoff and for a new GPU you're better off looking at an RTX 2060 (1070Ti - like performance for almost same price new if you use PCPartPicker for pricing) or the GTX 1660 Ti which is cheaper new with better than 1070 performance.

Otherwise you can snag a decent used 1070 (with a real cooler that won't make horrible noise, not that blower garbage) on eBay for over $100 less  (don't worry about mining that concern is really overblown if you know how to check product listings and descriptions):  https://www.ebay.com/itm/GIGABYTE-NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-1070-Windforce-OC-8gb-Gddr5/113633572068?epid=2254344812&hash=item1a7516b4e4:g:IRgAAOSwJOJcS4uz:rk:5:pf:0&LH_BIN=1
