NVIDIA Readies GeForce GTX 1650 for March Release

The card is rumored to be based on NVIDIA's smallest "Turing" chip, the 12 nm "TU117." NVIDIA will use the GTX 1650 to capture key sub-$200 price-points where its "Pascal" based GTX 1050 and GTX 1060 3 GB find themselves embattled against AMD's Radeon RX 570 and RX 580 4 GB, which have undergone major price-cuts.

The GeForce GTX 1650 is rumored to feature anywhere between 896 to 1,024 CUDA cores based on the "Turing" architecture, and most likely a 128-bit wide memory interface holding 4 GB of memory. According to TUM_APISAK, its core clock speed is set to 1485 MHz. With its TDP expected to be around 75 Watts, the card will either completely lack power connectors, or feature a single 6-pin PCIe power connector in some custom-design cards.

If this card does indeed have 1,024 CUDA Cores, that is approximately 47% less CUDA Cores than the RTX 2060. Therefore making the GTX 1650 somewhere about and around RX 570 4GB or GTX 1060 6GB performance. If the MSRP is correct at $179, it should make it a compelling option for budget gamers. Although, the 4GB frame buffer is not very desirable in 2019 from a future or long-term investment perspective.

Honestly with the rx 580 8gb being around that 180 dollar price point I don't think it would be that compelling unless it matches or beats the 1060 6gb. If it is slower than the 1060 6gb I don't know why anyone would buy it. I mean it has 4gb less vram than the similarly priced rx 580 and you can find the 4gb rx 580 for even cheaper so even if you think 8 vs 4 doesn't matter you could save by buying the 4gb rx 580. If it really does come out at a 180 dollar price point while also being slower than the 1060 that would be disappointing.

That 1660 sounds pretty nice. Not so sure about the 1650... I guess it’s like the new 1050, so that makes sense.

It’s at a nice price point, but truthfully, it would be a lot more appealing to me if it were 6GB. I don’t see any point in buying this when I could get a 1060 6GB at a similar price.

The 1660 seems very attractive. I'm curious to see the benchmark but if it can match the 1070 performance while costing the same price as the RX 590 and consuming less power than the 1660Ti... That would be an interesting combination.

I'm not sure what to think about the 3GB/6GB thing though. If the 1660 3GB costs $230 and the 6GB variant is more expensive, then you'd be better off buying a 1660Ti.... or get an RX 590 8GB if the prices drop.

If the 1650 can outperform the 1060 then this would be the best price/performance ratio IMO.

You know what's crazy about the GTX 1660 TI? The performance per dollar is the same as the RTX 2060. Obviously, it depends on your budget, but that 2060 isn't looking as bad as some made it sound at launch.

Because the AMD fanboys accused them of sandbagging and holding back innovation because they had no competition. now they are just releasing everything once it is mostly stable.

The problem ATM is that there's no way to squeeze more than 12GB of GDDR6 onto the higher end models whilst maintaining bandwidth and not majorly upping the price tag. AMD are going to face similar issues' with Navi BTW.

 

I'm personally expecting a late generation release of newer RTX models. These will make the jump to PCIE 4.0, and use 1.5GB GDDR6 modules in the place of the current 1GB modules. Then they'll populate the extra pair of memory slots on the 1660's to take them to 8GB, and raise the 1650 to 6GB the same way.

I'd rather buy 1650 Ti if it matches performance of RX 570..It actually depends on the Indian pricing too..RX 570 is priced at around 194 $ in India and there is only one model available, the ASUS ROG one.

So I've been checking all this and I think that AMD is still not dead in this category. All they have to do now is drop their prices, which they will do very likely. Like an RX 580 8GB at $150-160 with two free games would be a very solid offer.

As someone who got a RX 570 for 110 USD, I really was hoping for better performance in this price range.

Was sorta hoping for high refresh rate (100 FPS at 1080p High for most games) stuff to come about, I guess the budget market can't win em all. Also realistically that was too high of an expectation.

Not like I am even limited by my GPU, my CPU is bottlenecking the hell out of it.

With only having 4GB, why wouldn't you pick up a 1060 6gb? Just to have more freedom with your VRAM.

 

I'm just speaking because I've had VRAM limitations in my PC's.
