Still waiting on a couple parts scheduled for delivery tomorrow (couple M.2s and NVlink).

Not to make you feel bad about your build, but I have two questions for you:

- Why did you choose that MSI MEG Z390 GODLINK motherboard? There are so many better options from Gigabyte and ASRock.

- Why did you go with two RTX 2080s over a single RTX 2080 Ti?

Also, this isn't a build log. Please use the appropriate subforum, in this case it should be "New Builds and Planning."

Like @Chett_Manly asked, why two 2080s instead of a 2080 ti?  Also, you are going to enjoy building in that case.  It is really high quality and smartly designed.

Can I ask why the dual 2080 instead of a 2080ti? Do you have a game or application in mind that scales well? I am curious about the state of SLI.

Oh man the SLI is soo pointless.  SLI is dead and games don't support it properly.  A single 2080Ti will yield you better performance then 2 2080's.  SLI is dead and nVidia knows it.

I use 3440x1440 so running 2080ti only hurts me as far as features.. (Ray Tracing and DLSS on 2080ti only work with 4k resolution)

Depends on your definition of "better"

I assume that since this is currently on my kitchen counter going together that it counts as a build log since I will be logging my build periodically from the beginning all the way through it getting monoblock this summer with full custom loop for cpu and both gpus.

What are you talking about?  Who told you this?

Also, 64gb of RAM?  Why?

Nividia

TL:DR from the aricle above

DLSS is available with the following GPUs, with ray tracing turned on, at the resolutions listed below:

  • 3840x2160: All RTX GPUs
  • 2560x1440: RTX 2060, 2070, and 2080
  • 1920x1080: RTX 2060 and 2070

I don't see 3440x1440 anywhere on there....

I have used ray tracing at 3440x1440 with my 2080ti on BF V.  DLSS will not work correctly at 3440x1440 regardless of which card you own.

I hope you can return those 2080s.  If 2080 SLI were the better solution for 3440x1440 myself and a lot of other people would be using them.

3440x1440 is "Ultrawide 1440p" and the DLSS is supported with 2080 but not the 2080ti
There are several youtube videos that show 3440x1440 in use with DLSS in Battlefield V. It has had some blurring issues but Nvidia said they are focusing on 1920x1080 and 3440x1440.

I do have a number of programs on my computer that will benefit from it. Like MasterCAM, Photoshop CC, also when running virtual machines for one of the games I like to play.

DLSS is a joke anyway. Completely pointless at this moment in time. A 2080 ti truly would have been the better option..

I think two cards look cool so at least you got that going..

I am not sure DLSS works like you think.  It can be used with a 2080ti and 3440x1440...

So much negativity in here. Everyone has made their opinions known, he has made his choice, time to move on I think. BTW I love your choice of mobo and processor, I was considering the same thing as you but ultimately couldn't justify the price, I hope you post pictures when you're done.

Yes, if that was the case.. But by the looks of it, it looks like he made a genuine mistake.. Everyone is only trying to help him, not bash him.. At least I hope not..

Admittedly I could totally be reading the room wrong, I’ve definitely done than more than once in my life

@Ele Rebellion Just to let you know man, here is Battlefield V running both RTX and DLSS at 3440x1440 using my 2080ti...with some bonus footage of me getting my ass kicked...

This is being recorded using the 2080ti's new NVENC chip (which is sick btw) so frames usually run a touch higher when not recording.

@TahoeDust Ya I've seen that it is starting to work now. I still feel happy with my 2080s. Getting great FPS

The computer looks sick. Except the NVlink.. the MSI MEG Z390 Godlike requires the gpus to be 4-slotted. (Whole reason Linus used this mobo in the video where he ran dual 2080ti) However MSI does not currently offer a 4-slot NVlink. I decided to use the EVGA (same one linus used in that video) but it will not fit on MSI Gaming X Trios.. at least not with the platics on it. I had to remove the front and rear plastics to make it fit. (the plastic tip woudn't clear the actual card) ... I will oreder a different NVlink next week so it will look nice. Will post some pics then.

mean time, I ran the 3DMARK demo on a small overclock.
CPU - 5.0ghz @ 1.31v
GPUs - +100mhz core / +150mhz memory / power limit set 109%

I'm sure the demo for Time Spy isn't super taxing. I only hit a max of 66c on the gpus.
Scored 20,223 on first run

Wow - so may "experts" in here who apparently don't know a damn thing - or know a little and are entitled nitwits who can't accept someone having a different point of view to themselves.

This is not the build I would have chosen - but it's solid. I am very interested to see how the SLI scaling is and what your CPU temps are like. Keep us posted.

Good choice in PSU btw.
