my dell ultrasharp has a sensor to detect it's orientation, but *if* it actually communicates that back to the pc, it's a feature that only works on windows 8 because dell is stupid like that.

that said.. i'm sure there's means (macro based solutions) to easily change display configuration, and to the question of displays that are easy to rotate.. just get a display with a nice stand, few examples among many of this being dell ultrasharp and HP EliteDisplay

Widows has hot keys for flipping the screen.

Though I’m sure an auto feature would be better but costly.

Here's what you should do...

1. Shortlist a selection by the panels that have the features you want.

2. Look up reviews on those models to find out if they have rotational adjustment on the stand, or is VESA mount compatible.

3. Get the one that you feel has the best mix of features and a stand that allows rotation. If the clear winner does not have a rotating stand but can be VESA mounted, then get that and an aftermarket VESA stand that support rotation.

4. In Windows, set the display to portrait.

Awareness is key. Never enough, even in the face of futility. Speak the truth as if you may never get to say it again. This world is full of ugly. Change it they say. The only way is to reveal the ugly. To change the truth you must first acknowledge it. Never pretend it isn't there. Never bend the knee.
