Upgrade from i3 4130 to i5 8400

Yeah, I have forever to hold out, the old one still works at 60 fps-ish lol.

Almost impossible to get an old 4th gen processor, they are damn too expensive now. I'd rather wait till summer ?

Hold out.

Save more money. Then when Ryzen 3000 launches, you might score a great deal on 2000.

I want to upgrade from an i3 4130 with 8gb 1600 mhz ram to an i5 8400 with 16 GB 3000 mhz ram. I am not changing my graphics card, which a GTX 1050ti 4gb version. How much of a performance upgrade can I expect in gaming? I primarily play Rainbow six siege and GTA V. And can I run these on a 450 watt power supply ? Also if someone could recommend a cheap but good motherboard for this same, would be highly appreciated?. I currently get 60 fps-ish on low-medium settings in R6, with only a gradual drop near to explosions. Also my 1050ti is a 6-pin version and is peak overclocked.

Not much

I would rather upgrade to a i5 4690k/i7 4770k/i7 4790k and get a RTX 2060 or RX 580.

That GTX is quite slow.

ANd you might want to wait until summer, if possible...

The GPU is quite a Problem though...

No, you need a good quality PSU.

What do you have right now??

Sidenote: i7 4770 + RTX 2060 is about 450€, while i5 8400 + 16GB DDR4 + new motherboard is way above that, plus you don't even upgrade your GPU which is going to be way more important in this case (!)

Problem is that those CPUs are rediculously expensive and you can expect 200€ or so for them.

It makes more sense to look for lower end Ryzen and a Graphics Card + sell the old System.

I sold my i3-4150 with an H81I for like 75€ or so...

I wouldn't get a 8400... because the r5 2600 exists...

the suggestion to go 4770(k)/4790(k) is a really good one

I'll judge about the psu with @Stefan Payne if you can give a model number

I would def take the above advice my friend.  Grab a 4790k OC it throw in a 2060 RTX and your good to go.

Asus Sabertooth x79 / 4930k @ 4500 @ 1.408v / Gigabyte WF 2080 RTX / Corsair VG 64GB @ 1866 & AX1600i & H115i Pro @ 2x Noctua NF-A14 / Carbide 330r Blackout

Scarlett 2i2 Audio Interface / KRK Rokits 10" / Sennheiser HD 650 / Logitech G Pro Wireless Mouse & G915 Linear & G935 & C920 / SL 88 Grand / Cakewalk / NF-A14 Int P12 Ex
AOC 40" 4k Curved / LG 55" OLED C9 120hz / LaCie Porsche Design 2TB & 500GB / Samsung 950 Pro 500GB / 850 Pro 500GB / Crucial m4 500GB / Asus M.2 Card

IF you can get them for a good price, maybe.

The Problem is that they are rediculously overpriced, new as well as used.

So you can expect some shit like 150€...

I've looked in a certain bay area here for the 4790K and its around 200€ + shipping.

Especially if you keep in mind that a Ryzen 5/1600X is lke 140€...

The 2600 is like 150€...

That's something to be very careful about, especially on Intels. The used market prices are just rediculous...

They should be around 100€ for a 4790k, not 200€.

And remember: Haswell was introduced in april 2013, so its going to be 6 Years old right now,

4790K was released in May 2014...

Thats rather old...

Yeah, the irony is that LGA2011 CPUs are cheaper. I got an Offer for an i7-4930K for around 150€, that's still not a good price but better than an i7-4790K for 200€...

The RTX 2060 is currently VERY expensive in India, and the market for old stuff is also Shit, could you give me an alternative that could help me make out the most from the 1050ti ?

Yea, here an i5 7400 is cheaper than an i5 4th gen, and an i7 4th gen is over double the price !

A Ryzen 5 2600 is about 230 USD in India, with that you can estimate the prices of the others, and an i5 8400 is about 270 USD.

As you people are suggesting and is infact true that the GTX 1050Ti is slow,

What could be a processor that could make the most out of it, without getting too over the top ?

I don't recommend any of the locked Intel chips.

If you are looking to upgrade at this time your best bet would be as already suggested, try for a secondhand 4770k/4790k.

That said, if you can hold out until July, I'd do that.
