Pixel 2 XL vs Pocophone f1

I'm planning to buy a new phone, I have decided that I'll either get the pixel 2 XL or the Pocophone F1. However even if I buy the Pixel 2 XL refurbished it is still costlier than the Pocophone F1. The Pocophone has an IPS LCD screen but then again the pixel doesn't have a very good screen. I'll use a custom ROM with the Poco so it is basically stock android and the camera isn't very important to me and anyways I'll use gcam.

 

I just need a phone which will last me for a long time.

 

Which one would be a better choice, considering that the Poco has more ram and has a better SOC

 

PS which phone has a better screen?

Poco lacks NFC, if you don't need NFC (for Google Pay etc) go with it.

The MI 8 doesn't have very good ROM support ( at least right now) and MIUI is unbearable

just for my info, if you go with the poco, would you use the poco rom?

I have the pixel 2 XL. If you like the stock Android experience and don't wanna go through the hurdles to put it on the poco, you want a better camera and a nicer screen, with front facing speakers, get the pixel.

 

I have no complaints except for the lack of Expendable storage. You might care about no headphone jack though, but I couldn't care less

i'm someone, who prefers wired headphones BIG TIME over any wireless solution.

And i think, no headphone jack is not that big of a deal. I have that 3.5mm Adapter from my Oneplus 6t on my headphones, so it's just a slightly longer cable to plug in.

 

Quality wise zero issues, with somewhat higher quality in-ears~.

 

 

Btw: I would prefer the Oled screen of the Pixel 2 XL (even with a slight color shift) over any LCD screen.

 

Human senses "get used" to anything. If you have a slight blue tint for example, and use that screen every day, your Eyes will adapt to that, and think this is "normal". You will NOT notice anything anymore, unless you compare it to anything else.

 

Everyone can check this out too, simply use a Night mode / Blue filter or something for a few Days. First, you will be like "damn, that is SO yellowish wtf", after a few days you won't notice. You disable that, and you will be like "holy shit, that is SO BLUE right now". Untill you get used again.

 

 

Short: Pixel 2 XL Display > Pocophone F1 Display.

 

 

Also, keep in Mind: Pixel 2 XL will continue to get Updates untill October 2020~. Android 10, and Android 11 WILL be available. But shortly after Android 11, there is no guarantee anymore for future updates - which is okay i guess. You will be able to use it for the next 3 years without problems.

What about the S8( It costs the same as the Poco where I live and it is new)

S8 will get Android 9 update now/soon, and then that's the last Major Update, then just Security patches untill mid 2020~

 

It is a 2017 Flaggship (SoC), so.. yea.

Specs are better than Pocophone, it has headphone Jack, IP68 much better Display, camera a bit better, Qi Charging, much more premium feel etc.

On the other hand, it has a much smaller battery (life), and a VERY bad Fingerprint sensor positioning.

 

Is it a bad phone? Absolutely Not. Even in 2-3 years it will be reliable and work - because it was a flaggship 2 years ago.

It simply starts reaching the end of it's life cycle, and the overall Performance will not be the best you can buy. Pocophone will be snappier/faster with a better SoC - especially if you install a Custom Rom like LineageOS.

S8, not just the 1 year older SoC will make it feel slightly slower, but also the "feature-rich" OneUI from Samsung.

 

 

In Short: Pocophone has more performance, and will most likely recieve longer updates (Android 10 was promised at least, probably even 11), battery life also.

On the other hand, S8 will give you more features like IP68 protection, Qi charging, premium feel, better Display (also, without a Notch).

 

 

How about you look into a Xiaomi Mi 8? It's pretty much on 1 Level with a Galaxy S9+, minus the Display resolution (which is still perfectly fine).

I would go with the P2XL, I haven't used the others but I have been really happy with the pixel and I think you will get a lot more out of it than the other options. The screen isn't actually bad at all and I agree with others when they say you will like having an oled. It is suuper nice. Also while it can cost more you can get used ones for about the same price as the lower priced alternatives.
