Netflix blocks my VPN

Supportsneedlove

I'm trying to watch "Dawn of the planet of the apes revolution" which isn't on Danish Netflix but is on the German one. I connected to a German server viq PIA but Netflix know that I'm using a VPN. How do I watch my movie?

Unfortunately, this is all too common these days, Netflix is able to distinguish almost all VPNs these days so you are likely out of luck, in my experience I try again at different times, or different locations to connect to, and it works some of the time but not always. Netflix has invested in the prevention of VPN services allowing users to watch content as if they were in a location they are not.

You can go to Germany and watch it. Or you can buy it for 90 Krona on blueray.

Any other advice breaks the forum rules.

I use PIA on Mobile and it works on Netflix, of course sometimes it recognises it but force closing the app or choosing a different server.

Netflix official policy is that if your not in that country then you dont get access. They actively block VPN's from accessing their servers.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

How do I "force close" it? I'm on Huawei Android.

My friend does this. Which add costs. He rents out a VPS in America , whcih allows him to watch the American Netflix with all the shows, he pays around £15-20 per month the for the server and of course, the price for the Netflix subscription. He uses the server for other stuff as well watching Netflix.

Contact PIA, they might not "officially" support Netflix but they may advise of a specific VPN server that is known working.  Sadly you may have to do this often as Netflix will eventually block any working server.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)

There are 2 different ways of doing this one is to go on to the recent apps tab then swiping the app away and that works for me.

Anything you pay for, you might as well buy the media or a subscription service out of Germany.

Not describing how to bypass anything, but if you want a trusted VPN connection that likely won't ge flagged as a VPN - make a friend in Germany and setup a VPN server at their house.

  • 4 weeks later...

Netflix is putting a lot of pressure on bigger VPN providers, so far it's been IP block-bans but I've heard somewhere they're planning to further increase protection against VPNs, dunno how though. So far can only say I'm using Surfshark and had to troubles with Netflix. Pretty new provider - no IP bans so far.

Just have someone in Germany download it to a flash drive and bring it back to you (if you don’t give them your password, I don’t think any rules were broken) and just use the Netflix download button to make it official

You know what VPN's tend not to block? Piracy. Netflix can block VPN's all they want, but we all know people will find a way around it. In reality its not really Netflix pushing the VPN providers away its the content owners. They require Netflix to own licensing in every country, so if your country dont have a licence for X programming, your not suppose to have access to it. So in all the Content owners are pushing people to piracy. Be fucking surprise there. Then they are going to whine like little bitch cunts about people stealing content.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

That's not what we're really talking about. OP wants to use Netflix and since he's paying for the services I believe he/she should have access to full content. And it's not the issue whether Netflix or content owners are pushing for geo-blocks, - piracy will never be as comfortable as a professional streaming service. I use Netflix and I use a VPN to bypass geo-blocks, haven't pirated any content in years. In the end it's everybody's choice.

Technically by passing Geo Blocks is piracy. Even though you pay for Netflix, you only pay for Netflix in the country your in. Thats the content your legally allowed to have access to. Any content outside of that is not licensed and legally cant be viewed on the service.

Can't say I agree. A quick search online showed two links here and here discussing the same question. I do understand the point that Netflix does not want you bypassing geo-blocks but are there any actual laws by which they can sue the user for doing that? One thing is that they should prove that you actually watched any content that you're not supposed to but for that they need to have browsing logs, and there are none if you're using a good VPN service. How do you make a case here?

P.S. I think that geo-blocks is a marketing strategy above all else.

They make a case by A) Having logs on when the customer logs in B) Having logs on the IP address the customer is using. Has its not hard to take an IP address and figure out what company owns it. Thats how the MPAA and RIAA are able to get ISP's to forward those "Stop downloading" Letters to pirates. So take A and B and put that together and you have evidence. Then the LAW thats being broken is copy right law. How each country handles that is different, but most of this content is protected by international agreements, at least the FBI/INTERPOL warnings on movies suggests that. Even if they cant get the customer under the law, Netflix can just ban the customers account.
