China's Huawei uses "dubious" tactics to try to reverse engineer technology from Apple and other competitors in the electronics market, a report charged on Monday, The possibility of Huawei stealing design of Apple parts, and manufactures recognizing the parts, and refusing production.

I have to admit that is really clutching at straws if they think they are going to get any useful engineering  information from sales executives.

 

reverse engineering mustn't be too easy when it comes to heart rate sensors.

I don't have a problem with chinese phone manufacturers, but completely cloning parts isn't necessary for Huawei to do since IMO they make some really nice phones and I wouldn't want even a copy of an iphone anyway.

Huawei has been doing weird things for quite a while. Xiaomi on the other hand doesn't seem to be involved in any drama and I don't recall them being accused of anything so far (maybe some patent conflict, but nothing more).

Also, one thing is taking hints, like most industries where you have a product where part of it reminds you of some other. It's different when you place two different products together and can't tell them apart except for tiny brand name...

As far as i know I phones are a status symbol in china, so if your phone looks like an iphone from afar, you´re the cool person. Also in Schools in china afaik. you are more taught to analyze how a thing is, what it looks like and how it works, and not as much as how to create something from that, it´s just easier to make the same thing.

Xiaomi kinda doesn't. Just look at Mi Mix 3 design. A slider smartphone with huge screen ratio and zero notches idiocy. The fact they designed a slider to get rid of the notch was an amazing design approach.

I honestly believe that this a problem of patent systems. It's one thing to have a system that clearly records when something was invented (and who invented it) but it becomes hella restrictive when it also prevents others from building on the original design.

 

I know that doesnt exactly apply to simply copying people's designs like this, and I definitely think this sort of thing is a shady practice, especially when the product exists in the world. I just cant help but think that this practice wouldn't be necessary if patents and the use-thereof weren't so restrictive.

Considering apple hasn't really innovated anything besides alienating customers since the original Iphone, couldn't you say that Huawei is stealing and reverse engineering things from real manufacturers such as samsung, LG, etc?  Stealing innovation from apple is rather a conflict of ideas as there is little to steal in my opinion
