RTX 2070 for 1440p?

awpaca

So, been looking for an upgrade for both my monitor and gpu (60hz gtx 980 right now), will the 2070 be able to handle 1440p games for some 3-4 years? Also, does 60fps on 144hz look like the same as in 60hz? will i notice screen tearing? (mainly for e-sports titles like csgo or league)

I have the MSI RTX 2070 ARMOR and I play Battlefield V on Ultra 1440p 60Hz without a problem.

not really looking for the Ray Tracing, but the DLSS seems useful, and price drops are not really that common on my country, 2070 almost same price as 1070ti

No! watch the video about DLSS shared in that topic. It's a fail feature. 4K DLSS is like upscalled lower resolution, not even match it, it's even worse than upscalled lower res. horrible

Metro Exodus looks AMAZING with the ray traced lighting on 2080ti though...not sure how it would run on a 2070...probably horrible...but still. :)

no. games are going so fast graphics wise. this is just not possible anymore. i can maybe give it 2 years but not 3 or 4. heck 2 years is even a stretch. well maybe if you wanne run low settings but you may as well play 1080p then.

Just get 2060 if you still want some RT goodies for 60fps 1440p, or go older gen like 1070 Ti/1080/Vega 56.

pick a 2070 not for the dlss or the ray tracing , just for being a 1080 from this year. a 1070ti/1080/2070 can hold 144fps at 1440p very well. I play with a 1070 (not ti) and achieve 160 fps (1440p) in games like apex or 130 fps on pubg without touching settings.

A RTX 2070 will work great for 1440p! For e-sport titles like CSGO and League it will easily be able to hit 200+ FPS at highest settings. Though in games like BO4 if you play at high settings you will get 120-150 FPS. In a couple of years the GPU will probably have a hard time to play newer AAA titles at more than 100 FPS with highest settings so then you might have to toggle the settings down a bit.

With ray tracing you're lookint at 50/60FPS at best at 1080p (and this is with the disgusting DLSS enabled mind you)... and probably 30/40FPS at 1440p and 4K is a slide show..here:

Are you sure you dont touch any settings?  I have a 1070ti (overclocked) and play Apex on 1440p, havnt touched any settings and pull 115 FPS max.  And your pulling this with a 1070 (non Ti) on 1440p?

well i did mean the fps wise non rtx. rtx is just not good with something like a 2070.

and extreme is the highest setting. so this is worsed case scenario (besides rtx).
So the rtx 2070 can do quiet allot. but its pretty dissapointing since the rtx 2060 overclocked performs around a 2070 stock. so the 2070 is a bit of a joke.. it deserved allot more performance thats for sure. i mean get a 350 card.. oc it and you will have a 550/600 euro card. how dumb right?

Then why you quoted my post where i was talking about RTX ray traced lighting looking amazing on a 2080ti and probably ran horrible on a 2070...

i mean, i know the RTX 2070 can run metro exodus plenty well...so long as you don't use raytracing:

The hell you talking about?!

The RTX 2070 is roughly 25% faster than a 2060...can you overclock a 2060 by 25%? and if you can...guess what: you can overclock a 2070 as well. This argument doesn't have ground to stand on...

The RTX 2070 has 2304 cuda cores and the 2060 only has 1920 cuda cores...that's a 20% difference right there...and the 2070 has more memory. The RTX 2070 is a lot more powerful than the 2060...now if it's worth the increase in price over a 2060 is up to you to decide.

I was in the same boat as you about a month ago. I looked at the cards performance wise knowing how often I upgrade and I decided to go with the rtx2060 and a 1080p 144hz monitor.

I didnt want to spend 2080 or 2080ti money on the card so I stayed at 1080p and went to

144hz.

For 1440p I wouldn’t go below the 2080, I don’t use ray tracing at all, I have no interest in sight seeing because I play mostly shooters where I’m looking for people not lightrays bouncing off of stuff

No cpu mobo or ram atm

No it isn't. The 2070 is like the 1070 ti vs the 1080, the 1080 doesn't make much sense with the price difference between the two cards.

Quote

When put head to head against the RTX 2070 we see that the RTX 2060 was up to 16% slower and that’s a worst case scenario. Meanwhile there were a handful of titles where the margin was under 10% and overall this meant the RTX 2060 was on average only 11% slower at 1440p. You have to wonder why anyone would spend over 40% more on a graphics card that’s not even 15% faster.

lol people using userbenchmark as a gauge for actual gaming performance. Look at game benchmarks dude. 2070 is nowhere near 25% faster than 2060. It averages around 10-15% faster depending on the reviewer. And hell let's suppose you're right (Which you're not) the 2070 still doesn't make sense because it costs 40% more.

Anyways to summarize, nope. Not much more powerful. 15% more performance for 40% more cost is dumb. Nobody should buy the 2070.

edit: Also come on mate you know better than to try to extrapolate relative performance between cards based off of core counts. GTX 1080 has 2560 cuda cores, 1070 has 1920 cuda cores. That means 1080 has 33% more cuda cores. 1080 is nowhere NEAR 33% faster than 1070. It's like MAYBE 25% faster. So that means there's a 32% relative delta between actual performance and predicted performance. Let's run that through the 20% higher core count and hey look, 2070 should be around 15% faster than 2060, which lines up with the actual numbers people have found. Go figure.

Honestly it was never greater than 10fps difference if you try maxing settings, I also defend that you either go 2060 or 2080, the 2070 is already too expensive for too little gain.

Honestly it was never greater than 10fps difference if you try maxing settings, I also defend that you either go 2060 or 2080, the 2070 is already too expensive for too little gain.

yeah sadly i had already bought an msi gaming z (2070) pre 2060 release. xD
