Is anyone else going to blow their wad on this!

Turtle Rig

Im patiently waiting for the Samsung 49" QLED HDR FreeSync 2 and 120hz @ 5120x1440.  Of course that will be desktop resolution and I will game @ 1440p.  THe monitor won awards at CES.  I am guessing it will cost 1700 dollars.  Who else can make guesses also who else is going to blow their wad on this upcoming monitor.  I know the day I see it available near may or june I will buy it.  Sure the price will go down but by only 500 dollars in 2 years.  Not worth it to wait.

How many times have you made a thread about this same thing? We get it, you want that monitor, and nobody else is buying it because that's way too rich for my blood.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What's wrong with buying 2x regular 1440P monitors? I honestly have zero interest in ultrawides, especially ultra-ultrawides.

Well the horizontal resolution is 5120 ,,,,, so its not really 2 QHD ,, but a single 5k.  No bezel in the middle and what not.

I cant play at 1080p,  When I had my 1060 6GB then yes I played at 1080p,  Now I play at 1440p with all nvpanel settings turned on set to max AA and all that stuff and in game settings at ultra and I get 160fps avg in Quake Champions.  But ya I see where your coming from kangaroo my friend.

I think it would be a good move if it is around $1700. If it is around $2000 wait for a sale.

I am planning to go with a LG 3840 X 1600 144hz monitor if it ever comes out and is around that price.

If . .and its a big IF, it performs well enough in the visual quality department, then maybe ill consider it

But...

Its still 1440p, not 2160p, which would be preferable.

Its still LCD , and backlit, so its black performance, including black level, contrast, black and grey uniformity, will be critical. I find alot that LCD monitors lack uniformity quality control vs LCD TV's, so i wont be holding my breath for that aspect. Also viewing angles will be somthing to look at aswell it being a super ultra wide and VA.

Being VA its pixel response times will also be crucial. At 120hz it will need a 100% transition speed of less than 8ms, which is going to be very difficult for a VA panel. The fastest i can recall seing a VA panel Monitor run is 3ms 80% and 11ms 100%. For the most part only TN panels can get below 8ms at 100% transition speed.

To be fair if it can manage a low 80% transition speed, perhaps below 4ms, and a 100% at 10ms or below it would be 'good enough'.

Also price, i wouldnt pay more than £1500. Infact generaly speaking i wouldn't pay more than £600 for a LCD, BUT if it performs really well then i'd be ok going up to £1500, at this time however i have yet to ever come across a LCD monitor or TV that performs well enough to warrant such a price tag.
