Tefal Steam Generator Solenoid Valve

grangervoldemort

We have a Tefal Steam Generator Iron and the solenoide valve is constantly letting out steam when in use.

The entire steam generator (which includes the iron) stopped working recently. My dad discovered it was a broken wire in the cable leading to the iron. So he cut the broken part, soldered it together and refit and hey presto it works.

BUT the valve is constantly letting out steam when in use.

Any ideas on would would be causing this?

Does the valve only let steam out when the coil is activated? If so then perhaps the coils hasn't failed but the PCB has and is sending a constant false signal?

Or is the valve held in place as long as the coil is active?

Note in the photos the top of the valve has been opened up by my dad.

Also note the black pipe going into the valve that leads to the iron was trimmed because the black wire had to be trimmed, so so did the pipe.

Thank you.
