Do I need 1TB SSD?

I've got 2 HDD in my build , one 2.5" 5400RPM, it serves as installing programs as well as storing some source codes that I work with

Another HDD is 3.5" 7200RPM, mainly used for storing games

My boot drive is a 128GB USB3.0. It is technically a SSD, because they are all flash memory anyways, but many have suggested me to upgrade to a legit SATA/NVMe SSD.

 

Do I need a 1TB SSD, or simply a 500GB will be enough?

Uhh, no...

What are you hoping to store on the drive? If you're just planning on using it as an OS drive, then 1TB is unnecessary. I would say that for most people 500GB would be enough.

You don't NEED it, 500gb is plenty if you use other storage but if you are lazy or load a lot of games onto the SSD, you will need 1tb+

all up to your budget, 500gb looks like sweet spot (ignoring hikvision)

Yeah and no. Both use flash memory but quality difference is significant. Grab a 500gb ssd. It will suffice for OS, most common and uncommon software along with some games.

You need a real SSD, Flash drive is a low level flash memory, not as fast and not as durable.

Yes.

Even better a 2tb SSD. I started using a1tb SSDs in 2016.

Now because of price cuts and my 1tb drives getting full, I will be upgrading to 2tb SSDs.

 

I mod some of my video games. None of them will run off a HD without i/o stutter. Even when I used HDs for gaming they were WD 10,000rpm(since 2007). 

 

All my storage is on WD USB 2tb drives. I get them on sale for under $60. I use them because I have more than 1 computer in the house and I am not using a home server. It also makes transferring a modded games from one computer to another easier since some are over 120gbs in size.

You know how much HDD space you can get for the same price of 2TB SSD?

Keep windows and all basic programs on C and games and everything else (especially games) on another Big drive.

3TB HDD is just $50.

You don't NEED 500GB. An OS will load onto a 120GB SSD no problem. There won't be much room for anything else, but if you use other storage... (I know what you're trying to say lol)

I explained why I don't use hard drives. 

The last time I tried was with a 5tb WD Black. It failed.

 

Why do you think I have poor management skills when I prefer 1 big drive over lots of little drives?

Maybe it has more to do with the budget I am working with.

It's a bit expensive for what you're getting though. A 120GB SATA SSD is $30 and faster because its interface can do 6Gbps, compared to the 5Gbps USB3 can do.

 

Get a 500GB 860 Evo and call it a day. Should be around 90-100 bucks.
