It's a simple and sad clout chasing attempt. He knows better and knows that LTT isn't targeting him. "Trying to shut my channel down" give me a fucking break.

The main difference between Carey and *everyone else* is Carey has not only talked trash about LTT in the past, calling them shills and the like, as well as saying they are mentally ill for their opinion on thermal compound application - but he can also be quoted verbatim saying how "he doesn't understand how his channel has seen so little growth while hobbyists like LTT and JayzTwoCents are so popular, because his stuff is *real*"

Except it IS absolutely surprising. He's a guy who has been youtubing for a decade, and dealt with content ID in the past. To not know the difference between content ID claims and copyright strikes is ridiculous. I get you're a fan of us (you must be), but stop making excuses. You're grasping at straws. He has no excuse not to be up to date on youtube copyright games given his experience. Are you honestly going to insult my or anyone elses intelligence by continuing to say he doesn't know better? Someone who has been doing this for over a decade *Doesn't know better* when people who don't even upload videos to youtube do know these things?

It's blatant and you're making excuses for him. From the clickbait title to the outright ignorance and dismissal of the explanations of the ID system people are giving him in his comments, all the way to the "demanding a public announcement and apology to him" from Linus. Not to everyone, no, he said to him. The clamoring for a name drop from Linus is absolutely glistening. It reeks of publicity stunt.

Well thats just a matter of opinion. I mean we've even had whole threads pretty much arguing over how LTT is "shilling out". And if you've seen Linus' content ever since he used to be with NCIX there has been quite a lot of criticism that he's changed into more of a "entertainment" channel. I do miss the unboxings and detailed hardware reviews, but channels like Gamers Nexus have very in depth hardware and case reviews.  I'm not aware of him criticizing JayzTwoCents though I like his content as well, I don't do any extreme water cooled builds yet I still find his videos entertaining.

However Carey is subjectively more "real" than the entertainment youtubers that he doesn't have to make edits or memes to get attention or clickbait videos and bling'ed out RGB tempered glass builds to attract the PCMR crowd.

Except he isn't the only one making a video panicking that their content is being flagged by LTT, these smaller youtubers don't have a legal team to explain every rule and a MCN to cover them for channel strikes. I'm sure he's dealt with false contentID on his channel before but all that shows up for them is a claim from a company.  He probably wasn't aware that other channels were getting falsely attacked with bullshit contentID's.

You can insist i'm just defending Carey's channel if you want, but the amount of jumping to conclusions isn't justified either without both sides having a response to the issue.

Some of the best food reviewers do a lot of their vids in the car, but in this case it seems like he didn't have time to do the video at home.

From that logic then every other channel that made a video about getting contentID strikes are looking for "free promotion" as well. And in the response video Linus made he stated he's keeping monetization on, which is free promotion for him. It's simply business for all of these people to be fair.

If the videos were ones that were still getting views, its still not making them any money until the claim is resolved, not a big deal for a channel like LTT but maybe for a smaller channel that aren't making sponsored videos every day.

I'd like to think LMG are helping out to resolve claims,  I watched the WAN show and Linus pretty much agreed he doesn't want illegitimate claims against other channels,

but Linus didn't mention helping out other channels in the response video, all I got from it was " here's how the system works not my fault so go dispute it yourselves". The claim with The Linux Gamer iirc was fair use so easy to deny the false claim in that case, then the false claims of ownership of a benchmark should be just as quickly resolved.  And I'm not going to throw around criticism when the guy blaming LTT hasn't given a reply.

Not surprising either if those people are aware of what the Verge tried to do with a few content creators, yeah i know it's bullshit and they're not even in the same tech space but maybe they're having the assumption of another large tech company trying to shut them down from any criticism and competition.

I think Holzman just assumes the worst because he doesn't understand how this works.

I agree he probably doesn't at least with the recent changes to the automated system, maybe he has too much trust in Youtube and isn't paying attention to how much google is screwing it up, personally I couldn't trust Youtube as a stable platform to make a living from without an alternative payment source like patreon or another source to upload content.

Yep, in agreement with you. I've been Subbed to Carey for a long while, such a shame to see what a piece of shit he is. His ego got ahead of him and the entire platform has grown up without him, he doesn't know how to properly garner an audience. The guy has 0 charisma, acts like an expert on all 4 corners of the earth and has little to provide. Hell, even fucking Tech of Tomorrow has been able to hold his own and he was kicked out of his OWN company of his OWN youtube channel, has also suffered multiple diseases and had his foot amputated. Tech of Tomorrow has endured all of these hardships while continuing a career that isn't as popular as it once was but is MUCH more interesting to watch. Carey Holzmans videos are so low quality with camera work and editing I feel like I'm watching a temp shoot an amateur porno. That is why he's unpopular, the community has grown up without him.

This says everything you need to know about Carey. Most, if not all, of his video's are downright boring. He will never be a million subscriber youtube. (If he is it will be a long time)

His video's are all shot in the same spot, same repetitive content over and over. His quick tips are basically the information Tech Quickie didn't use and he picked up the scraps. I've never found him to be all that knowledgeable on computers. His troubleshooting is meh and his level of experience seems to be something of an advanced user. Sure he can build a PC but that's not all that difficult. I feel like he got an A+ cert and deemed himself an expert based on an entry level cert

Could have been a kneejerk reaction on a busy day idk, the attitude just seems like he didn't expect or want to deal with it on a weekend, although I think neither Carey or Linus should have made a video about it and the issue could have been solved on twitter. And IMO all the dislikes on the guys video doesn't make the LTT community look any better.

I guess he's boring to most any enthusiast that already knows what to do. Not sure why people are comparing him to Linus though, they're both totally different channels with a different focus on who they appeal to. It seems like people don't understand how much work it is for one person with a camera to set up every angle rather than one filming spot, while LTT has $50k cameras and a whole crew. And techquickie puts out a bunch of misinformation, in fairness at least Carey's stuff is factual even if it may be basic info to anyone who already studied in computer sciences.

It appears the like/dislike ratio has been hidden on that video. So in other words he is aware of the criticism from the community in regards to the video and instead of addressing it (removing the video) he's decided to pretend that people aren't criticising him. Never a good sign.
When I looked a few hours ago I believe the ratio was somewhere in the region of 1.5k likes to 4.8k dislikes (>75% dislike ratio).

Even better. He doesn't know that dislikes/likes affect the visibility/algorithm, and deleting the video will probably boost his channel better than hiding the dislikes but clinging onto those sweet sweet useless bait clicks/views?

Is this Vox/Verge wannabes central? XD

(PS, I have no actual idea on Youtube's algorithm, but I would assume the dislikes are worse than actually just removing the video and keeping lots of likes on the rest of the channel)

I can tell him why his channel is shit, people are dumber after watching his drivel.  He's the moron who spent 45 minutes lambasting HP for making a $400 computer (complete with windows and 24/7 phone support), because it wasn't a high end PC and was put together with something other than standard P2 screws.  🙄

Interesting you'd make that assumption after a single video, but I wouldn't sit through a 45 minute video of someone telling me a cheap prebuilt is crap when I already know. Was it some garbage prebuilt that lacked even a standard ATX PSU? I could personally care less if it was $400 as that should be incentive to not use horrible proprietary screws, and good luck getting decent phone support with a $400 computer. Yeah a 45min video can be tough to sit through but I think it's fine that people are making detailed guides to build your own instead.

Guys keep your opinions of the content of both channels out of this, it dirties the discussion. The point is, this dude has assumed Linus is some tech Mafia that has decided he shouldn't exist, he assumed LMG of extreme ignorance and Ill will want him out of the game. I don't watch him But the attitude in his video is just terrible. I feel for LMG, i want to feel for the affected youtuber but his attitude is making it SO hard. It doesnt really matter if you think his content is raw, good, bad. Or LMG content is clickbaity, sellout, good, bad etc.

I've come over here from overclockers.net which seems to be decaying after the botched platform update some months ago (this may be my first post here).  I've watched some of Carey's videos over time as well as those made by Linus and a bunch of other YouTubers.  I'm agnostic about all of them (never subscribed to any of them either) and able to separate the wheat from the chaff.  I never watch any of these in real time as I prefer to FF through to see if it's worth watching in total.  A solo YouTuber such as Carey has a daunting task to build up a following and maybe he has maxed out with his current subscription base.  I think all of us who have been around tech for a while (my first CS course was Fortran programming on IBM mainframes😀 and I've built probably 15 or so PCs over the years, workstations as I'm not a gamer) can quickly see that Carey's audience is far different from other tech video sites.  There is nothing wrong with that.

Carey obviously over reacted yesterday (and note that he was out of town on a visit to his father who was having some kind of health emergency as per the posted video) just as he over reacted to the swatting incident several weeks ago.  Yes, it should be been handled directly with Linus and Carey's ignorance of what was happening is no excuse.  This incident will eventually ebb away and be forgotten in a month or so.  Carey did say he planned to broadcast today and he really needs to apologize for his comments yesterday and display an understanding of the issue; we will see if that happens.

That single video isn't a summary of his channel per-say but the quality and lack of research behind it, is. You don't need a script but you at least need to do some research and prep work. No offense to Tech Deals fans as I've been watching him for a long while but even he is more interesting. Tech Deals isn't the most interesting, comes off as dorky/nerdy but my God is he leagues better to watch. It feels like any of Careys YT money goes into personal expenditures because of the Windows Movie Maker editing tricks, Sony Handicam Quality and lack of setup quality. When Random Frank P was starting his setup was leagues ahead, there really is no excuse for where he's at. Again, Tech of Tomorrow through all the hardships both financially and health wise he's been able to upgrade his set/filming setup.

I have lost any respect I had for Carey Holzman. Instead of simply disputing these claims or reaching out to Linus, he makes a video where he is (intentionally or just being ignorant) telling his viewers that he got seven copyright strikes while logic dictates that one = no livestreaming in the first place or three = your channel is shut down while in actuality he only received content ID claims.

Also, he is only allowing comments that are in favor of him. Britec09 made a comment on the video showing the steps to go about this process, and to not blame LTT since this was done by an automated bot, but now I no longer see that comment. I won't be surprised if Carey takes down the popular comments that show he shouldn't blame Linus once interest in his video dies down.

I don't see this ending any time soon. He has a stream coming up in an hour or so today and he's already in chat railing against LMG/Linus - I would have screenshotted but I can't scroll back in youtube live chat for some reason.

It just seems like the guy wants to be a victim and doesn't care about how youtube works. We'll see, i suppose.

I just signed up to respond to this.

His upcoming whatever is very provocative.  He makes it seem like he's gone to court or something.

I don't agree with Linus and the companies videos all the time.  I think sometimes they knock others a bit too much.

That being said, I've never gotten the impression that LMG is on a search and destroy mission.

It never occurred to me that some youtubers are wound too tight.

This guy has way too much drama.

Swat team at his house.  His old man is on his last legs.  He builds PCs for veterans.

I'm probably going to hell just for being suspicious.

Did they ever figure out who called the swat team?

The jealousy is weird.  Just saw a video from some guy named Eil?  whose bag I think is servers dumping all over Linus

because LMG is huge and is responsible.   And no one can figure out how to contact LMG when something like this comes up.

Even though LMG has a contact page which can be found in a couple of seconds.

Which even if not the right way to contact LMG about content would have easily been given to the person(s) responsible for content.

Linus was genuinely shook up yesterday.

A small business owner who is plugging away everyday.

I used to go to Overclock.net pretty often, though the platform update, and IIRC they changed ownership which didn't help either. I've been subscribed to both Linus and Carey for quite a while, so I appreciate what both channels do even though the content is very different, people have to look at it besides just gaming.

I missed the part where he mentions a family emergency, after getting trolled on twitter and swatted he is understandably upset over the issue.

I don't know how the system works if getting enough dislikes has any negative impact on a channel, going back to the video he removed the likes/dislikes. And I agree he should apologize for wrongly accusing LTT of trying to take him down, although I feel like Linus could be doing more to help all of these channels affected as LTT should have enough influence as a large channel to have a discussion with someone at Youtube. Then again the whole thing is way overblown, and Linus didn't even have to respond with a video.

I've been subscribed to Carey for a few years and this reaction is not out of character for him.

He's been swatted and has had content ID claims before, it's natural that this was going to happen.

I think the fault lies with Carey and the majority of the people in his livechat for blaming LMG, Linus and his employees without any evidence that it actually is their fault (although I can kinda understand why, 7 content claims isn't something to take lightly) but it's also YouTube's fault for Content ID going apeshit and claiming random content.

I don't believe that starting a livestream and discussing it publicly was the right action though.

He should have tried to contact Linus/Luke in private before starting this whole fiasco.

I've sat through about 4 too many of his videos to know he doesn't understand the industry.

FWIW, that phone support is the same phone support all HP customers get (which if you know nothing about computers is better than nothing), the computer came with keyboard, mouse, monitor, very basic pc and windows. Lot's of people tried to argue how shit it was but no one could make one for the same price.  That was the point, it took him forty five minutes (in part 1 mind you) to miss all of that and he didn't even understand the target audience.
