If they get tons of channels later, they could so it so you also had the option to pay quite a lot more per month but get access to everything, but it probably won't as that's not how they have planned floatplane to work.

Based in what they have said, it will never be truly free. They might add a "free for a limited time" thing like one month or something tho.

I would disagree, google may have enacted some good things at first but it was inevitable that things would sour, as they have many times since the purchase.

I do believe that YT would have improved on thing on their without being bought out.

What has gotten worse though? And I don't think it could have gotten better without google. No way some small company could take on and form partnerships with the giant music and movie corporations like google was able to.

Youtube has competition, I have not heard of any Mergers between Youtube and other video platforms and they are not a monopoly based on the fact there are other video sites out there. While Youtube could be breaking some other laws, Anti Trust is not one of them.

"Community guidelines" is the biggest crap Youtube has done after ContenID.

All it takes is a couple of people wrongfully reporting you for something and you get a strike without anyone from Youtube actually verifying it.

Ah, I have missed that. Well that's kind of sad because how I see it, they won't ever grow into the size of YT and other free platforms and I think Floatplane has a very good point in their business model that could allow them to live from the "premiere user" incomes while offering videos week later for free (maybe even as timed, like the free users couldn't watch videos older than a week or something). But I still like to think the time will tell, service like YT in it's scale needs a lot of HW behind it and only that is already in the prices you could call astronomical not to even talk about the bandwidth needs, and while Floatplane grows bigger and the userbase grows and more CCs come in many things could change (highlighting, this is what I like to believe).

I mean good for you guys but no small company will over take youtube. Its no simply task. There is indeed a point where a company is so large (including community) that underdogs are not an immediate threat.

Keep in mind Google inc was only ~8 or 9 years old at the time of purchasing Youtube.
Who is to say that Youtube on it's own couldn't have become a tech giant. I mean if you told me back in 2004, a social networking site called Facebook would become one of the 3 biggest companies in tech... I probably wouldn't have believed you.

So there's been a possible explanation...

 

Apparently Pokémon Go uses CP or Combat Points but YouTube's bot mistook it to mean child pornography and flagged 3 channels for child sexual abuse.

Yes, and that has never been allowed, and they had early versions of ContentID early on.

 

Sites like Napster didn't, because again, they were actively stealing content.

Didn't stop Viacom from suing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viacom_International_Inc._v._YouTube,_Inc.

Its unlikely a smaller company would have been able to take them on. Their early contentID system was both extremely aggressive and missed a lot of stuff. When it found something with copyrighted material, they would remove the video. If you used a song back in 2006 that wasn't royalty free, and you were found, it would be removed, unlike today where it would simply get an ad placed on it and not allow you to monetize the video.
