is there anyway to boot unlock a huwaei mate 20 pro/x?

so i know somebody who has a huwaei mate 20 pro/x cant remember the exact model.  The issue is that it is a Chinese variant of the phone.  Now he can use it in the states but some features are not there that he wants.  I was going to flash a custom ROM onto the phone but the issue is the boot loader is closed and huawei no longer provides the code to unlock it anymore.  So i did some research and saw that people are selling the codes.  My questions are one are they legit?  like am i going to be wasting $60 on nothing?  2. is there anyone website you recommend going to if we proceed with this route?  and three is there any other way to do this.  We are specifically trying to flash a global software onto the phone. Thank you
