below $200 (otherwise known as 30% below the Hero) sits the Gigabyte Z390 Aorus boards which are better options unless you're buying it purely for extreme overclocking.

The Asus Maximus Hero XI has garbage VRM quality compared to the Gigabyte Aorus Master. The Gigabyte Aorus Master has the best VRMs at the price point you're looking into.

The Aorus Master will provide you the best overclocks for the 9900k (besides the Aorus Extreme).

Gigabyte Aorus is the best Z390 line up, every one knows it, pick one that you can afford comfortably.

Maximums Hero XI is the most overpriced motherboard on z390 line up, along any other "ROG" branded board, Asus is selling their brand before actual quality.

If only ASUS had the VRM that my motherboard has.  I guess that is reserved for HEDT and not a crummy dual channel board.

It's actually funny how shitty the Asus Z390 boards are for overclocking. Asus can kind of get away with it because they have these loyal, dumb customers that think Asus is the best.

I know a guy who pretty much got scammed by getting the Z390 Prime-P... $150 for that hot garbage.

You know your sh*T mxk.  I have no room to talk.  You are correct.  But ya my mobo is TUF military grade and has been going strong for 7 years of abuse and overclocking.  But ya your right ASUS dropped the ball on these new gen mobos.  Also Asus has the worst support ever with drivers and what not or BIOS.  Their page still shows my BIOS as beta... for years now.. They cant update it to non beta wtf.  So ya ASUS has quirks, but I am here to say I know for fact my mobo is rock solid.  But ya if I was gonna build now and throw in a 9900k with a Gigabyte Z390 OC her to 5Ghz and call it a day.

Yeah those old Asus boards are solid. "Take me back" I'm sure lots of current Asus owners are thinking that.. Still beta? Lollll

Yeah any of the Gigabyte Aorus boards can handle the 9900k with ease, even the Elite. It's ridiculous how hot the 9900k is, but thats what happens when you double the cores and threads on the same lithography that you've been using since Skylake.
