blinking on older monitor

zassou

i have a dell u2311h that serves me quite well over the years, but recently it started to misbehave.

other than the fact the ccfl backlight turn more and more yellow (and dimmer), it started to blink every now and then. its not those on-and-off kinda scenario, rather random cycles between high and mid brightness. this is often occurs when waking up from a long hibernation.

also, last week the monitor had a dark screen problem, where it will turn dark after working for a few seconds, backlight turn off like when you switching resolution. powering on and off didnt fix this, but yanking the power lead a few times made it behave normally.

i know nothing about power supplies, and to an extend, high voltage electronics. i checked backlight unit and psu for this model and they cost almost as much as the price of the whole unit on second hand market.

is it an easy fix? can a noob fix the backlight or the psu? is it better off to grab another u2311h?

why everybody post the spec of their rig here? i dont! cuz its made of mashed potatoes!

Try a different cable and let us know.  You may need to also do a DDU if the cable doesn't fix things.
