Now illegal to click links?

TechyBen

We are going to need a filter for content some how, else we may all get trolled?

It will be an offence to view terrorist material online just once – and could incur a prison sentence of up to 15 years – under new UK laws.

As mentioned in the Australian law threads. This could be problematic in the future. How/what do other people think of it? Is it not dangerous to start to treat the digital world differently to the real world? I mean, imagine if it was made illegal to see a poster, and some troll went around and posted it up on walls, signs, buildings? Would we have to walk around blind so as not to accidentally break the law viewing something "illegal"?

This different from current laws mentioning "using/possessing" material. So it does seem, a big change in, even global, society is on it's way. One about thought crimes!

We definitely need to keep away from these things. The current weeks news here in the UK is horrendous, lots of recent kidnappings/murders, and quite a few previous ones from last year now in the news as sentencing is being passed. So I agree, there are things we want to avoid. But is this the way to solve such violence and problems?

The idea is mostly that there's pretty much no way for people to avoid ever clicking on "terrornist maternal link" at least once in their lives, so everyone is guilty and the powers-that-be can then use that as an excuse to go after anyone they want at any time they want from there-on after.

Not so fast, citizen, don't think too hard about this.  It would be a shame if we made thinking about thought crimes *puts on shades* a crime.

How are they able to prove that one has clicked on a terrorist propaganda link?

ISPs can track your traffic unless you're a smart boi and use a VPN, so while technically they can't prove that you specifically clicked one, they can sure as hell stack the cards against you.

15 years prison time because you where curious about what the developments are in these times? sounds fair.

in all likely hood this law has been passed for the exact reasons @flibberdipper mentioned tough. if they have this as a 'reason' to finally arrest a suspected terrorist they didn;t have any real reason to arrest for, then i'm all for it.

Your own fault for choosing your own news sources instead of getting your news from the government's propaganda network.

Nah. It's a fee. Fees are what they are. I don't watch TV, but do stream Amazon/netflix etc, as these are not British Broadcast services (showing their TV or funding their production), I only pay for Amazon/Netflix.

IIRC you can also stream (on the internet) the Non-BBC channels over the internet without a TV licence, as they are not broadcast over BBC radio infrastructure, and not produced by them.

As said below, it's a fee. It basically stems from back when cable TV wasn't a thing and everyone only had 4 channels and you had to get off your ass to go to the actual TV and change the channel. Could be said it was the 1st "streaming service" since technically, you paid a monthly / yearly "fee" to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and you got terrestrial TV in return. Nowadays, since TV's are used for practically anything visual and not JUST viewing the BBC it's kinda became a mute thing. They can still come to your door to check if you have a TV so they can go "well pay ur TV license", but you have no legal requirement to let them in. So you can tell them to scram. Because (i'd wager) they get so much money from advertising slots etc, needing to enforce the TV license to keep the BBC afloat isn't a thing, though technically still illegal if you have at least one TV in the household capable of viewing any BBC broadcast.
