How much RAM for 3D rendering?

For both system RAM and VRAM, how much of each do you typically use in 3D rendering?

I ordered 16GB of RAM and an RTX 2070 which has 8GB of VRAM, is this enough?

I'm aware that the Vega 7 have 16GB of HBM2, but it is a loud and hot card which may not be good for a college dorm (I'm going to college later this year).
