Samsung Galaxy S10 has 4k video front camera? Samsung teaser hints towards it...

You seriously put tape over your front facing camera like a webcam on a laptop?

On my S7 I did just that indeed.

The only reason I do it this way is because the S7 is not the easiest to work on and I plan to sell it later.  My other phone and my tablet don't require a heatgun etc to open them up, so on those two I removed the front facing camera altogether.

because who wants/needs to record something with the front camera in 4K?

the only thing this will do is drive up the amount of ads and tracking we have to put up with on sites like instagram because all that 4K footage has to be stored somehow. it will also require a lot more bandwidth driving up cost of data plans and to top it off will require a lot more processing power on all of those fronts meaning a lot more energy used which is bad because renewable energy isn't good enough to support us yet and fossil fuels will run out someday.

Loads of people. Vloggers, people who use Instagram, etc etc.

You're falling into the "I don't find this useful, so no one else does either" method of thinking. If you can't understand how it's useful, you don't understand the world.

Who says you have to upload it? Store it locally. Your energy use statement is just sad ?

i doubt that. 4K on front camera's is so useless i doubt Apple would sacrifice making the notch smaller etc to do it.

I agree that it's useless but it's a marketing gimmick.  The mind set is anything to get a leg up on the competition.  Although Apple seems to be taking away features these days more than they are adding them.

oof

But for real tho, the limitation is always going to be the sensor. You just can't put anything close to a smartphone sensor in the bezel of a laptop. There isn't enough space.

Actually, if they wanted to, they could.

It's more of a cost thing alongside wanting slim ass bezels.

How thin the bezels are has nothing to do with the fact that a decent sensor requires depth, depth that laptop displays don't have.

For thin and lights, perhaps, but some chunky laptops do have some depth for a decent sensor. I remember that in 2010, Samsung actually made a 2.1MP module made for laptops that could also handle proper 1080p. The sensor itself usually doesn't take up that much space. What usually takes up that space are optics.

But hell, laptop webcams are usually an afterthought. Very few are actually good.

i'm expecting to see something amazing.. something different. just 3-4 cameras on the back not edge to edge glass like the S7, S8, S9.

Something new.. but Apple is recycling and so in Samsung. where is the Innovation, someone do something different.

I would be satisfied if the front facing camera performed and looked the same way as the camera on the back.

Haha, for the handful of people that would use it? Doesn't make sense at all from a financial aspect. You have a lot of money to lose. So. There's that.

Your statement makes zero sense, create a poll and ask if how many people rather have a notch and rather not have a front camera, if they were removing the front camera it would cost them less to make the actual phone, if you create about 20% of the phones without the front camera, it would sell out like hotcakes.

It makes perfect sense. If you make another model with a different set up, you have to source new displays, new marketing, new packaging, separate line in the factory to produce it, and you increase the chances of having models that haven't sold. It's not as simple as "just don't include the camera module". Plus, do you actually think the camera module costs that much to produce? It doesn't. The front facing camera is $10. Your costs for setting up an entire new production line far exceed this.

Most people want a front facing camera. You don't, that's fine, you're in an extremely small niche, and you need to realize that.

The commercial for the S10 was mistakenly shown on norwegian TV a day early.

Use google translate if needed, the video shown on tv mentions inscreen fingerprint sensor, 5 cameras, ability to charge other devices wirelessly and new galaxy [ear]buds.. There's  some additional specs towards the bottom of the article but it isn't clear where they've gotten those as they aren't mentioned in the videoad.

I'm keeping my note9 until it dies of old age.
