AMD (doesn't) makes a UEFI - Radeon VII found missing UEFI support

TIL.

Next you're gonna tell me it's B-I-O-S, not Bi-ose

It's U-E-F-I in my book, though neither way is wrong IMO.

In the same vein "Sue Dew" is how you correctly pronounce sudo, but very few do and no one cares if you don't. A lot of things people pronounce they way that sounds cooler.

It's by-ose though anyone pronouncing it B-I-O-S should be shot

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

I feel this reaffirms the idea that AMD was working hard to rush this card to market

Which strikes me as bizarre because this is an adapted version of Vega 20, already on the market for a good while.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k (won) - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Kill Trident Z RGB - Force MP500 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - The venerated Hyper 212 Evo (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G2 650W - Black and green theme, Razer branwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Linux Proliant ML150 G6:

Xeon X5560 - 24GB ECC DDR3 - MSI GTX 650 - some 7200RPM SATA II thing - Ubuntu (at the moment)

Seems like a strange omittance, and likely caused by a rush to market. Does it matter? Not really. I dont know many people who would buy a compute thrashing GPU and shove them in a prebuilt.

Storm in a water bottle confirmed.

Main PC: i5-8600K (6C/6T), MSI Z370M, T-Force Delta II RGB 16GB, Samsung 128GB NVME, Crutial MX500 1TB, WD 1TB HDD, ROG STRIX RX-580 8GB, Seasonic Evo 620W, Fractal Define Mini C TG

School Laptop: Thinkpad X201T. i7-L620, 8GB RAM, 250GB SSD, Intel iGPU

Random devices in various stages of working: Gateway Solo W2000 Laptop (For writing floppies, needs a battery), iBook G3 Clamshell (for a custom build, just a case), iBook G4 (For Sale.), 2011 Macbook pro 15" (Dead as a doornail. No idea.), Surface 3 (Touch screen is borked, perfect otherwise.)

As itll be likely solved by a vbios update, which many users will not know exists. I think the biggest problem is the delay in booting for some system and just having to change anything can throw off less savy people- those who can build a computer but don't really know stuff in depth. There's a lot of people out there that see the value in building their own PC even if they don't see the value in following it enough to be super informed.

I can't speak to those who would be put off by the slightest change like that, but if I put in a balls to the walls GPU like a Radeon VII and had to wait a couple more seconds for it to boot I wouldn't really complain. If anything it'd make me feel bad ass cause my PC was such a powerhouse it needed to load up before booting.😆

from my memory it was long enough to think the gpu wasn't working. It can also cause secure boot to not work...I think. Idk, uefi has been supported for like ten years on team green and team red, so I have limited experience throwing a non uefi compatible card in a newer system.

That I have done, and it only causes weirdness if you have secure boot or on some boards quick boot. It will ever just not work, however.

Most of the time you can't use Linux without disabling secure boot.

You can actually, the most common distros have  support for it, you just have to enable the devices from the system (for video cards it will be using the basic Vesa driver until you register them) if you plan to enable secure boot after the installation

Creator says JIF. Those of us capable of speaking more than 1/2 a language say GIF because we jive a shit what that jai has to say about it.

On the endless quest
So far into the west
Where history and destiny collide

Your luck will last forever and
The truth will never die
The fates shall be eternal on your side
Prepare to roll the dice just one more time

With the stars in the sky our guide
Voyage ever onwards
Set a course to the other side
Of the endless oceans blue

Treasure Island
Oh, the legends told of a land of rum and plunder
Treasure Island
On a quest for gold we'll sail the seven seas

It's more like give with the v sound replaced by an F sound from what i've heard people do. I have a tendency to use whatever pronunciation i first used because i've got into the habit. so i was curious as to which was right technically speaking.

Case in point the Ctrl key. I had no idea for years and years and years what it stood for so i took to calling it "central". I drive other techies nutz whenever i interact with them and it comes up :P.

In this case, the correct pronunciation is *G*IF. not: jiff. The author was mistaken. Oxford dictionary has already clarified this.

https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/gif

This was also supported by Marriam-Webster and the Cambridge Dictionary in both US and UK languages.

The complication is that in English you have :

Gift: You say: Gift, not Jift

But you have:

Giblets: Where you say: Jiblets, not *G*iblets

I was referring more to the the acronym being said in separate letters or together as a word.

The creator can't be mistaken, they created it, they decide what goes. Creator says the dictionary is wrong about their own creation, I'm inclined to agree.
