Looking for a good laptop

How would you compare a FX705 with a 1060 to a MSI GP73 with a 1060? Interested in cooling, build quality and QC. Cheers!

What about a GL703 with a 1070 - does it really struggle to keep it cool?

FX705 sucks, GP63 is better but still have questionable QC+QA

Yes, 1060 model is fine

HP Omen 17 1070 is also fine, but not great. Same goes to GP73 1070

That was helpful!

What about "17,3" DEFIANCE V RTX" (below)? Heard some mentions about it but not sure on the perception.

http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/defianceV-rtx-17

Mainly comparing it with a MSI GP73 Leopard 8RF - 2060 vs 1070; 6GB V RAM VS 8GB V RAM...

Also the price seems a little bit higher on PCSPECIALIST but this is due to the delivery (why I avoid Cyberpower - 100GBP delivery). My main concern if this increase is worth it when comparing it with MSI? I am trying to keep the same thermal control quality but to get a better build quality/QC.

It's a good model. I've done a review on this particular Clevo model, will publish the review soon

1070 runs hotter than 2060 but have similar performance. MSI QC is hit or miss even in higher end models

In regards to Clevo, what about the similar chassis from Cyberpower? The are a bit more expensive but offer free bonuses. Was wondering if there is any difference and maybe one company is more better? Also what happens if Clevo laptop fails, who is responsible? Do they even last long and considered reputable? For example when I buy phone I do so from a reputable maker and never heard of custom ones.

the reseller you buy from, or any reseller with a small charge

P970

A little bit more expensive but free peripherals. Main concern is which of the two (with PC Specialist) is better, as I heard in the past that sometimes some specific models are undervolted for some reason

In regards to longevity the concern is what if the laptop needs a repair in like two years - where do they get spare parts from, if the product life cycle and development is short? Also heard that on Clevo sometimes the fans and small bits break more quicker than bigger brands

Both are the same models, Personally it comes down to specs and price

I only saw TongFang barebones with preapplied undervolt (-50mv), though it doesn't provide much benefit as the undervolt is too little

Thank you for the information! I believe that this is what I saw and was concerned about...

I have managed to find a heavily discounted MSU GE75 Raider 8SE (035XES - http://www.pccomponentes.com/msi-ge75-raider-8se-035xes-intel-core-i7-8750h-16gb-256gb-ssd-1tb-rtx-2060-173) - regular price seems to be about 2000 Pounds.

Did not manage to find any reviews for this specific model (2060). Would I be right to assume that GE series is a superior ones? Really thinking to grab this model instead while the promotion runs!

It's a good model. Here's a review on the 2070 model. Expect 2060 model to run cooler

GE series is above GP series but like I said:

will run cooler but similar performance (depends on games)

Might saw minor CPU bottleneck in 8750H+2080 systems in some games, but not 2060/2070

I believe that I have made my choice between the following two - MSI GP73 8RF and HP OMEN 17.

Both have 16GB of RAM, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD, 120HZ screen, GTX 1070.

The only difference is that the HP model is about 250 Euros more expensive - about 1600 and 1850 Euros.

My question if it is worth the price? I heard that GP73 has better cooling but OMEN has better build. My reasoning is that better cooling gives more performance and it is not like I will damage it by dragging it around. Another issue is the QC of MSI. Finally, screen seems better on MSI.

Thanks!

Yes. However Omen 17 is much more bulkier

Both have their own pros and cons in terms of display quality

Why not Clevo and TongFang barebones I've mentioned before? I've done reviews on them so if you have any questions you can just ask me

In regards to MSI, my concern is that the QC issues will result in a faulty unit (immediately or sooner than HP).

In regards to Clevo, the price works out to 1900 Euros with a 2060. Laptop 2060 is found to be about 10% slower than a 1070. Therefore, it seems like I'm paying more for less.

So you are saying that MSI and Omen are not worth it? I have heard some praise about GP73 but the key issues is the QC. However, I am in Europe and we have strong customer protection - the retailer is responsible for a functioning unit. One issue was Brexit but it is postponed by 2 months - should be fine to ensure a functioning unit (the shop is UK based).

Depends on games and which 2060 variant. 90W>80W. Runs cooler too

The common issues are like broken hinge, imperfect build quality etc

Thanks. Seems like if I don't move it too much and don't mind some build imperfections MSI seems decent.

HP is more expensive for not much more and GL703GS can't handle a 1070. Clevo ones come with a 2060 which is more expensive but less performance.

Looks like I'll be going for GP73. Thanks!
