Looking for a good laptop

Based in Cyprus

Maximum budget is 1250-1375 Euros

Looking to be able also play World of Warcraft at good performance

From my research initially I was going for 17.3", 8750H, 1060 6GB, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 120HZ but then I realized that it would be too expensive, and not sure how long would I wait for a price for such to drop

Now I would be happy with a 15.6", 8300H, 1060 Max-Q, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD + 0.25TB HDD

I can buy from such sites as Amazon's in Europe when they deliver (most do not to me), Overclockers (cheap delivery), Scan (100GB delivery), computeruniverse (100 Euros delivery but was 25 only recently). Then local sites as https://public-cyprus.com.cy and http://stephanis.com.cy - but those are expensive and crap

Initially I saw this laptop for 1150 Euros with delivery but hesitated: https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B07G44YVXQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3JMBZ7PMVPBSB&psc=1 Now it is like 1450 with delivery (+300 Euros)

Today I saw this in shop locally: ASUS FX504-E4112T with 15.6", 8300H, 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD, 8GB RAM, 1060 6GB. Down to 1200 Euros from 1350. My concern is that FX504 are told to overheat a lot and just turns out very bad. Not sure if 8300H here instead of 8750H helps

Today I saw @GeneXiS_X post recommending GL504GM, MSI GP63, Omen 15 dc and Dell G7:

I managed to find this: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-gp63-nvidia-gtx-1060-16gb-15.6-fhd-120hz-i7-8750h-gaming-laptop-lt-279-ms.html 1250 Euros with delivery

My questions if you could kindly help if my specs are correct for what I want and what would you say in regards to the choice? I was waiting for RTX to come out and drop prices for old but so far not much happened

Thanks so much!

Online stores:

Cyprus (local):

Stephanis (English. As always, most is 1050 Ti or too expensive. The best I saw is like 1500 Euros for a decent model before. Other more-or-less decent models begin around 1400 Euros. In shop the cheapest were 1500 (Legion and Dell (IIRC))): stephanis link

Public (in Greek. Sorted for my preferences but literally nothing is available online; only saw this yesterday in the shop but heard about the overheating (4 at the end): from shop link?online shop public

Eshopcy (Greek; decent models appear to be out of stock/disappeared): eshop link

For shops all over the Europe:

Overclockers (~25GBP delivery): overclockers link

Scan (~100GBP delivery): scan link

Computeruniverse (100 Euros delivery): computeruniverselink

Also Amazons in Europe: such as this Acer Predator Helios 300 - acer on amazon link uk

Lastly there are custom build laptops but I am worried about the quality: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/ and https://www.cyberpowerpc.com/ - they don't seem affordable either

I gave up on FX504 after reading bad reviews, even if it is with 8300H instead of 8750H. 505 seems too expensive. Not sure about GL

Currently thinking about Helios and really like this one MSI:

msi on overclockers link

Only concern is 128GB SSD

Also this saw a while ago for 1150 Euros with delivery (now 1425 - gl703): asus on amazon it Not sure if waiting is worth it for a drop again

Max budget with delivery 1250GBP/1375 Euros

@GeneXiS_X

edit: 17.3 is even better but 15.6 is minimum

battery life and weight are irrelevant

Appreciated. Currently I could only find GP63, and Acer Helios Predator 300. My main concern is the thermals. Did you miss the latter one for this reason? Also, MSI seems nice, but concerns are build quality and small SSD. I will have a search for others that you listed in a bit. Thanks again.

Bad cooling, OKish overall build quality

MSI has inconsistent QC so take note. You can always upgrade storage later, cheaper too

Which of the three below is the best if the price is similar? GL703GM with 8300H, or GP63 vs Acer Helios 300 both 8750H?

The Dell. You can upgrade ram, nvme ssd, hdd, and remove the battery, look at a video of it. Also the screen is 120hz.

Still not able to find a decent Dell that would be available to me.

Currently considering GP63 despite an SSD upgrade. The laptop costs about 1125 GBP with delivery or 1300 Euros.

I found GP73 which seems to be a 17.3 over 15.6 essentially. Any thoughts on how those two compare? Specs seem identical but not sure about the build. Heard more people complaining about GP73 overheating over GP63 despite the bigger size

It only costs 100 GBP more/125 Euros

Thanks.

Currently I am deciding between GP73 and FX705GM. They both cost the same but I need at least a 250GB SSD - the former only comes with 128GBs and therefore it will cost me about an extra 100 GBP for a NVMe (decided for Samsung Evo Plus 970 250GB).

I am going for 17.3 over 15.6 as I believe this is better for gaming, and also maybe allowing more space for cooling.

As per the laptops, I have heard a lot of positive things about GP73's cooling from you and others. The only concern about this laptop is the build quality, which seems to be better in FX705GM according to the reviews, however cooling is the most important.

My question is can FX705GM's cooling compare to GP73's? As I have read mixed reviews. Otherwise, I understand that it is better then to get the latter and an SSD (I am also not looking forward to change it, as I am not very proficient) - currently it is almost 1200 GBP here and I am not sure when it will drop (to match the % discount on GP63. Also given the fact of RTX coming out).

Appreciated!

I dont know the GP series isnt any better. They throttle earlier, but cooling isnt "better".

Both laptops are pretty poor choices.

Can you find the Lenovo legion or omen that were recommended above?

If not I would look into the tongfang chassis recommended above. The only thing that sucks here is support by company that brands these chassis is usually subpar, and in 3 years when you need to replace a battery or fan they are usually much harder to find.

Without knowing your situation if you are going to use this for school or work I would advise you to get the 15.6. Finding a backpack or travel bag for a 17 is hard, carrying them is harder, and you look silly in a professional setting (this coming from someone who uses a laptop that is black and red).

Thanks. I have already upped my budget from 750 Euros originally to 1500 now, on top of having a reduced number of sources that can ship to me. Currently I am unable to find any Omens that I would be able to afford. Currently looking through Legions but if memory serves me well it will be the same situation.

It will be mostly used for playing World of Warcraft at home and this is why I believe 17.3 is better (usually an extra of 100 Euros on the 15.6 version).

Cheers!

How would GP73 and GE73 differ, both with 8750H and 1060 6GB? And what difference would it make with a 1070 inside?

Some extra features like RGB, Killer wifi etc which isn't that significant. I would go for GP73 personally since build quality, cooling, display quality and input devices are pretty much the same
