Back in the day I used AdAway and that did the trick. It requires root and I'm not sure if it still works, but hell, worth a shot right?

Download from a third party (google removed all of them) a VPN adblocker. It looks like a VPN app to android and in reality just blocks "bad" request and pass everything else though.

I use Firefox to watch all Youtube videos in browser with adguard extension and ghostery so I don't contribute to any ad money for YT celebrities... sorry Linus.

IDK if it would work with the YT app, unless it blocks the network connections tp the ad service.

I can download youtube videos with wmrecorder.

You can... but that's illegal and not to mention not very nice. You shouldn't mention that on the forums.

Yes, subscribe to Google All Access and you will no longer have to view ads and you can still support content creators whose content you are consuming.

If you don't want to pay the $10 a month, you could get a family plan and split the bill with some friends and family. That will make it dirt cheap.

android has youtube vanced which I use and is decent

I used Vanced yt in a Magisk version and flashed in recovery version, ads are one thing, but the biggest feature is background playback. I tried to purchase Youtube Red for the same benefits, but it's still not available in my country.

use aptoide, its a third party app store somewhat like google play, download the app then search for YouTube red and install the app then you're set, also plays in the background and when you're phone is off, only downside is that you cant sign in, but that doesn't bother everyone.
