ASUS ROG Strix Gaming RTX 2080 is very good card?

If someone asks if a strix card is good, the answer is usually yes

Performance, yes. Light sync, maybe if you want the Aura platform. Do I like the price tag? Not the one it has atm. Will I buy one if I am buying a 2080 (or constructing a part list)? No, unless RGB is important (I treat it as gimmick I'd get rid off).

If I could find it for the same price as a similar performing model from another brand then I would perhaps get it but usually the strix is much more expensive. That being said the 2080ti strix is actually really well priced at a store near me and I would definitely buy one if I was in the market for a 2080ti. That being said I already have a 2080ti so not going to buy another one.

Personally I'm avoiding anything with "ROG" on it... ASUS took a sad path of overpricing stuff for the brand... I'd still go EVGA because of better warranty and so on.

I mean, these are just things Asus advertises on their site. Excellent dual BIOS? Maybe. Depends on how you use it. Quiet BIOS? Well, it's there alright. Overclocked? You bet. Extra features? Yep, those are there too. Very low temperature? Maybe, that probably varies quite a bit

No. They are different.

Asus makes solid products and support, but lot of those Rog Strix and features are just advertising and trying to justify higher price.  Creative Labs used to do that with their high end sound cards, and lot of the features were not necessary.

 

2080 is a solid card and monster no matter what version you get.  I really don't see it necessary getting the OC edition for $$ value over the standard.  Just research the specs and up against the Founder Edition speeds to compare each.

They all have the exact same core supplied by Nvidia, but they may have different clocks, if the manufacturer decides to overclock the card, different memory manufacturer, PCB, power delivery (number of PCI-E power connectors), coolers, price, design, warranty etc.

It's good, but it's also pricey. In addition, ASUS warranty is just okay compared to, for example, EVGA, whose customer support is remarkable.

wut do you need a 2080 for? if your 4k gaming then I understand- rog is overpriced, they make good cards, but you could probably get a liquid cooled hybrid for the same price idk

The strix is good, but is it worth the premium? not even close, especially when even nvidia admits that the RTX cards (except the 2080 ti) isn't selling well.

Can't go wrong with ASUS.  They're OC software and GPUs are great.  LED color can be hit or miss (or at least it was on their 10 series)

Nope. RTX 2080 has a 0.3% market share on the steam hardware survey. For context, 1070ti has a 1.2% market share, has 1080 has a 2.8% market share. 2080ti has sold so few units it doesn't even show up. For context there 1080ti has a marketshare of 1.6%, there are fewer people using 2080ti than there are people using 980m's. There are fewer people using 980ti than there are people using GT 440's. I didn't even now the GT 440 existed until literally right just now!

 

So no they  haven't sold very well.

You do realize cards like 1080 and 1070 Ti have been on market for much longer period of time than 2080/2080 Ti, right?

@benjaminr it is impossible to say how many cards Nvidia sold until they (or retailers) release sale numbers. And get a dictionary instead of asking same question 25 times

2080ti came out 4 months ago and has a lower than .16% market share. Let's call it .15% to be very, very generous. 1080ti came out 22 months ago and has a market share of 1.6%

That means 2080ti has gained 0.0375% per month

That also means 1080ti has gained 0.0727% per month

Now, remember, 1080ti has also been end of life for the past 4 months, and has been very hard to find at a reasonable price new for the last 2-3. If we assume there have been negligable new 1080ti's sold in the last two months (remember, used sales have no net affect on market share) you end up with a nice 0.8% market share per month

 

So to recap. Even assuming the best case scenario for 2080ti, which has it at literally the best possible marketshare on the steam hardware survey, and even ignoring the fact that used 1080ti's have barely been sold for the last 2 months, 2080ti STILL sold around half the cards/unit time that 1080ti did.
