I'm getting an insurance payout! What to buy?!

Hello everyone.

As the title suggests, I am getting a payout from my insurance company for the demise of my s8 +.

I'm planning on using some of that (around half) to get a new phone. But i'm torn.

I'm getting a refurbished device and i'm torn between getting a replacement s8+ or Up  ( side) - grading to the Note 8.

The note 8 is around £390 vs the s8+ at £310.

Thoughts?

I've never owned a Note device. Only ever the Galaxy line (Since the galaxy s3!) Well, Not all of them.

S3, S5, S6, S8+

Appreciate any responses! Thanks.

I should also note (no pun intended) that content consumption is a huge deal for me. I have a position at a desk and when I'm there, it's all I use to watch movies, YouTube etc. So notch is a deal breaker for me

I'd recommend getting a OnePlus 6/6T if you can. They're great phones for the money.

If you really don't want to move away from Samsung, then both the S8+ and Note 8 are both great phones. Personally I'd get the S8+ since it's cheaper.

Battery life isn't a huge issue. I'm mostly near a charge point with it. 6/6t is out of price range.

Just want to clarify the reasoning for considering the note 8.

When I had my s8+ I had a laptop for content consumption away from home. Now, I don't. And the extra screen real estate is a huge draw

I would go for the S8+. The screen isn't much smaller than the Note 8 (Note 8 is 6.3 inches, S8+ is 6.2 inches) so it won't make a difference, even for content consumption.

Personally I'd rather save £70 since all you're missing out on is the stylus.

Interesting. I know it's only 0.1 of an inch but on reviews, even ltt, it looks considerably bigger. Maybe it's the aspect ratio? Man, I'd love to get input from Linus here phaha. Says everyone ever.

If you don't want to use the stylus, you can get a S8+ or S9+

If S9 lineup, i would highly recommend S9+ over regular S9.

- better battery life

- 6g Ram instead of 4

- secondary Camera (2x zoom)

s9+ is a little (lot) Out of budget.

Then, S8(+).

i would not get an S6 at all anymore, it doesn't get any Updates anymore - and is still on Android 7 (will not get 8 anymore).

Not to mention older Samsung phones....

  • 2 weeks later...

I would personally go with the Note 8 as battery and productivity for me are key selling points. You can't really go wrong with either device, but I think it's really a matter of what you're going to be using it for. Again, they're both great phones, but my vote is on the Note. [That rhymed ;) ]

If I can get a good quality refurb on a note 8 that's what I'm going for. Thanks guys.
