Anandtech got a statement from AMD:

The Radeon VII graphics card was created for gamers and creators, enthusiasts and early adopters. Given the broader market Radeon VII is targeting, we were considering different levels of FP64 performance. We previously communicated that Radeon VII provides 0.88 TFLOPS (DP=1/16 SP). However based on customer interest and feedback we wanted to let you know that we have decided to increase double precision compute performance to 3.52 TFLOPS (DP=1/4SP).

My Thoughts:

 

Seems like Unreal 4 results aren't great (what else is new), but it's otherwise a 2080. Up & Down between a few. 

 

The FP64 issue popped back up. This is now the best GPU for University science departments that have smaller budgets. This GPU is going to have a really long life.

This 4K result is really interesting. And I'm curious what the 1080p results are.

5-8% (1080p 1440p 2160p) higher scores than RTX 2080 in BFV without ray tracing.

Haven't had a chance to dig at all yet, surprised to see Anandtech say AMD gave yet another answer on the FP64 question, and at 1/4 it is interesting to me again... argh!

As a small note, since it's a future industry point, GDC in March is when all of the new gen console stuff should drop. Along with whatever AMD is doing with regards to DXR & Raytracing. That's going to be interesting to watch, as we could get a very different perspective on what this GPU can do after that point, though it's expected that's more about Navi.

Ray tracing in a game like BFV is a useless feature anyway, especially in MP, so that's notbad.jpg.

It's interesting to see what some of the game engines really leverage. The Radeon VII just has so much more memory bandwidth compared to everything else, it was bound to throw out a few curve ball results.

I know this may be unrelated, but the Seasonic Focus Plus series of the PSU had an issue with V56/64 cards, I guess not anymore. Gosh, its so ridiculous to look at the Vega peak draw compared to its competitors.

That modded Vega 56 I think was taking in 150% more power than stock or something ridiculous. It's just overclocker things.

At my preferred supplier they had one model in stock, but I'm sneaking on at work and between looks it sold out. Don't see any more supply but not done a wide look by any means.

With a performance like that, amd needs to drop the price by $200 or so around a rtx 2070.

CSGO is pretty much 100% CPU dependent at 1080p TBH.

Yeah for some reason AMD software allows for power target to be pushed to 150% vs 120% from NVidia. It kinda sucks for AMD because a lot of the hysteria surrounding Vega power draw was when overclocking with 150% PT benchmarks where shown, their own act to make to increase liberties in their software led to (I am assuming here) lower sales due to rumors or misinformation.

I can't find any confirmation that it's 1:4 anywhere else. So I'd recommend waiting until we have some more information.

their biggest problem is bad releases, and bad stock voltages, thats the main thing they need to fix
