Loop Order (Ive read plenty about it not mattering but....read inside)

Current plan is

 

Case:

CoolerMaster HAF XM


Air Intake:

200mm Side Intake

80mm front top intake

 

Radiator intake:

240mm front intake Push/Pull config

 

Radiator exhaust:

240mm top exhaust push config

120mm rear exhaust push/pull config

 

CPU - FX 8350

GPU x 2 - HD 7850's however I just bought a R9 Fury 3 fan today so this may swap those two out.  Still looking at 250w to dissipate here

 

Looking for opinions on how I should direct this flow...

 

pump/res -> CPU -> 240mm -> GPU1 -> GPU2 -> 120mm rad -> 240mm rad -> pump/res (rinse repeat?)

 

Im like 99% sure I will have another pump involved in this loop...because Im addicted and have already spent way to much past my budget to care.  So in that case where should that extra pump go in the loop?

Ok well first of all if you are spending money on a custom loop for this system, don't. You could put that money towards a new much better system. Even overclocking this now that it is on water is not going to come even close to making up the gains you could get by just putting the loop money into new parts.

IIRC you wanted to go with a ultra low cost loop what happened?

 

If you have a single good quality pump like a DDC or D5 it will not have any trouble at all but if you want to ensure you have enough pressure by using some lower end pumps you needs to have the pumps directly series together to build pressure.

@Tristerin I have been reading a bunch of articles on this and from what I understand, series pumps will increase the head of the system, while parallel pumps will increase flow rate.

@Max_Settings the 3 copper blocks cost me $38 - likely the only pieces of this that are "obsolete" so when I finish this experience, Ill have gained the knowledge, know-how, and if I burn up my system its an obsolete system. 

Im also calling this refurb build (when I do a build log) Frankenstein.  Lots of juice to bring it back "alive" - who cares how I spend my money.

 

So yeah...Ill be out a total of $38 for this trial...and end up with a beast of a loop amirite?

 

@W-L at first...then I went copper rads....then I wanted to do both GPUs....then I needed more fans...then I...then I...at this point Im only cheaping out on the copper blocks as those are obsolete to begin with.  Once the purchasing began...I wanted more lol.

 

@GMart84@Enderman Ill read more on it but its best to run pump -> pump -> CPU so on so forth?  One pump I have can be set to 1500 or 3000 rpm, the second pump I have is static 2500 rpm. 

 

Is there any reason to have the rads in a certain order to dissipate heat?

 

Again may be putting the R9 Fury X I just bought today in this FX PC (likely the best GPU I can pair with that CPU to find a minimum bottleneck) or it will go in my Ryzen not sure yet.  So yeah..nothing in stone...spending to much money...is what it is!

The two pumps need to be identical.

Also the order of the other components doesn't matter as long as the res is before the two pumps.

Not identical, can scrap that plan.  I figured so (due to flow speed) but wasn't sure it mattered. 

 

In your opinion, would it be best to put 1 240mm radiator after CPU, then liquid through both GPUs then back through 1 x 120 rad 1x 240 rad to res, pump rinse repeat? 

 

I understand each case is unique just curious what those with more experience would do if they had this option.

It literally does not matter, do the shortest and cleanest tubing runs possible.

That makes sense thank you for clarifying.

 

Actually because they are old sockets these are new blocks, just sourced from China.  They sell them on Amazon and Newegg for a huge markup lol and the reviews are steller for the price.  Read a few comparisons that the delta between a $100 block and this block was only a few degree C.  For this situation Ill offset that with TG Kryonaut

@Enderman @W-L  I promise Im not the guy speaking out his arse about a theoretical build.  You damn right Im wasting my money on this (Ive spent around $138 on it so far)  Ill do a build log (china shipments are...china shipments lol) as soon as everything arrives and I Can do a clean post.  Will be modding my case further etc so wanted to include that in the log (to fit a front 240mm)

No name, rebranded by multiple Chinese sources:

CPU block first pic (got the black framed one)

2xGPU blocks second pic, spoke with seller prior to getting them they will fit HD 7850 (and many other GPUs apparently just not the 7970 and one other he listed - not sure how much I trust it but since I Have it in writing I can get a refund if it doesn't fit)

Pump and res (third pic) they sell these for $43+ on Amazon...got mine for $23 shipped from China (great reviews, 16dBA)

2x240mm rads and 1x120mm rads (don't need pics for those will do on build log at work atm so just pulling images from pages)

@Tristerin I just bought that exact block for my VR Build off Amazon and it cost me $20 shipped. I love trying to find cheap gear that actually works.

 

I eagerly await whatever you do as you build all along has been entertaining.

 

Honestly, March 2018 I ran an i7 2700K without any issues in games or anything else.  So I hear ya on keeping that rig running.

After travelling over a Threadripper 2990WX overclocked to 4 GHz and the VRM to keep that stable, the fluid temperature increases by 1 degrees on my system. So as usual, order is not important, even after passing over a tonne of heat generating components

did you bought those watercooling stuff already, if not, i strongly suggest you to buy from bykski or barrow. It just cost you a little bit more but the build quality is really good.

I hear everyone who has an opinion on paying for name brand. 

 

$38 dollars in obsolete blocks x 3, vs $150+ for obsolete blocks x 3.  This is a no brainer. 

 

The key here is, not just buying from Aliexpress.  They key is finding items that resell sourced FROM AliExpress on Amazon and Newegg (all these blocks Ive already bought) and read the reviews there.  The reviews there state these blocks are great, ESPECIALLY for the price.  Didn't read a single review on them failing, leaking etc.

 

Then buy from Aliexpress. 

 

The only negative was people comparing them to their $100 blocks...basically the temps are a few degrees Celsius higher with the cheaper block.  At that point you have to put a price tag to efficiency and couple that with the obsolescence - easy choice to get cheapo blocks.

 

In this case...where I have ALREADY today completely changed my loop again (just bought ANOTHER R9 Fury Nitro this morning off Ebay) this is a $12 oh well.  The block should still fit though and if not...its still just $12. 

 

That's why I go this route.  If I build a full on new gaming rig (like I did in 2012 with this, was a AMD top of the liner at the time) I will buy the good stuffs...until then this is just playing around.

 

Heck the pump/res combo off Aliexpress = $23 shipped.  Go to Amazon and pay $45 or more for the same thing if you want, it has great reviews!  Runs at 16dBA etc!
