Which 2080 ti has the least coil whine?

Since I am still in shock about the coil whine from my 2080 ti Strix,...

 

Which Cards do have the least whine? At 60fps is fine, I don't care what it does at 200fps or beyond.

Are there any people that own a Strix and do not experience this issue? FPS don't seem to be relevant for me at all. The moment the GPU passes 1400mhz it goes full hooligan on me.

 

I am looking for input from people that really OWN one and not just "i hear model X is ok" or "for Maxwell model Y was great!". 

Just hearsay won't help me, when I have to wait another few weeks / months to get a new GPU and i certainly don't want another disaster like the Strix.

 

Are there 2080ti owners that don't experience any coil whine at all?

Not using headphones, when sitting about 1 meter away that is. If I have to push my ear to the case to hear it, that is fine. If I can't hear it over my case fans, that is fine as well. 

 

100% open for any brand and flavor really. All I care about is silence. Obviously the fans should not sound like jet engines, but those are usually less annoying than some whiney mosfets or coils.

I'd take EVGA, becuase they'll RMA if you have coil whine, and they have great customer service.

Coil whine can happen on any card from any manufacturer

If there is a zero percent chance for a Strix, I won't RMA for an exchange, but for my money back. If someone has a Strix and confirms it is silent, i may try my luck on "a few RMA" - tries.

If someone has an EVGA FTW3 and tells me it does not whine, I will just give that a shot. 

From checking google results i seriously did not see anyone claim having a 2080ti without this whine at all. But you usually don't jump onto a forum telling the world "my GPU is working as expected", so I thought id ask here before I waste months on RMAs.

Though I do not own a strix 2080Ti. I can confirm, so long as your card is within warranty Asus will allow you to RMA for basically anything. I own and have owned a couple STRIX cards and other Asus products, and have only noticed coil whine on 1 GPU (and they were happy to fix it. I elected not to as I needed my GPU at the time and could not afford downtime)

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

I may have gotten two very bad samples,.. but there is no way to check apart from giving RMA a shot sadly.

And it is very clearly and much louder than the fans. Yes. If that is not to be expected, i kinda get my hopes up for a better version (two actually,.. the one of my wife is just as loud, almost).

 

We can hear the coil / mosfet whine from two rooms away, in a closed case with case fans blasting at 100% for reference. So yeah, it really is bad.

I must have never got a card that’s ever done it. Or it’s at a hz I can’t hear.

I have heard my 2080ti wine one time.  I was running some benchmark where the GPU was hitting like 800+fps in a low resolution test...I think it was geekbench.  Other than that, silent.  My car is an EVGA, but this is only one sample.  Honestly, I have not heard much complaining about coil whine with the RTX cards.

So, the FTW3 has no noticeable coil whine for you? In that case ill give it a shot and ignore the cheap plastic look EVGA went for this time around,... can just buy a tower without glass and ignore it. ?

Only hearing the coils on high FPS stuff is exactly what i did have the past 20 years, before getting the Strix. Now it starts as early as 40fps.

I have the FTW3.  It is a nice card.  No issues with whine and the fans on it were pretty quiet.  I put the Hydrocopper block on it and is completely silent/whine free.

Judging from reviews the FTW3 normal bios is about 5-6db louder than the Strix silent bios. 

That is quite a bit more noise, but I guess I can further tweak the fan curve. The fan curve is not hard locked at a fixed %, right? I have had that with a Zotac card before, when 60% fan speed was the bottom, no matter how I tuned the curve.

 

But i will be honest here: You are the first to own a 2080ti and claim it has no coil whine and even if it is a sample size of 1, it means there is a chance to get one like yours.

Still kinda hope someone with a Strix will jump in, as RMA for a replacement would go quite a bit faster than ordering a new GPU that is out of stock about everywhere in my country.

So, just to make sure: We are talking about "There is no coil whine", and not about "I don't notice it because I have a 5inch thick case and use headphones all the time", right?

If so, you may have saved me a lot of headache, even tho i kinda like what I saw in FTX3 reviews in the past hour. ?

That is quite a bit more noise, but I guess I can further tweak the fan curve. The fan curve is not hard locked at a fixed %, right? I have had that with a Zotac card before, when 60% fan speed was the bottom, no matter how I tuned the curve.

 

But i will be honest here: You are the first to own a 2080ti and claim it has no coil whine and even if it is a sample size of 1, it means there is a chance to get one like yours.

Still kinda hope someone with a Strix will jump in, as RMA for a replacement would go quite a bit faster than ordering a new GPU that is out of stock about everywhere in my country.

Sorry, I edited that post after you responded.  The stock fans were pretty quiet, but not amazing.  I put the Hydrocopper block on mine and even in a completely silent setup, I still can't hear any whine.

yep ive even had a benchmark running with my sidepanel off on my 2080 Ti strix and still didnt hear anything and on top of that the card is near silent and at default fans and OC'd it doesnt go passed 70c at 4k

Now I will have to find out how to replace the Card as the vendor i bought it from does not have any in stock,.. only offering a refund sadly. Ordering it again has the earliest shipping date estimated in 2 months. 

These things are really sold out fast, considering the price and the bashing they get!

Which version Strix do you have? I doubt there is any difference apart from stock OC, but just in case,... there is the normal one, advanced and OC.
