How Many Computers Do You Have?

Computernaut

Way too many, a modern laptop, a modern desktop, and SOOO many old DOS and w95-2k machines with varying levels of functionality. Some with voodoo cards that work or don´t.

2 at my desk at home, a desktop and laptop at work, 1 computer in my workshop at home, 1 laptop as a plex server in my camper, 1 as a plex server at home, 1 chromebook as my personal daily carry laptop. Iphone and tablet also always with me. I have other older systems that I keep more for collectors purposes. I have a working Windows 8 machine, a working Windows XP machine, an older laptop with Linux Mint. Various older computers, all the way down to my original 286 I built when I was in middle school, and a Osbourne Executive I got very cheap from a person who found it in a storage locker. Its my prize computer collectible.

Geeze I thought I had a lot... some of you people are way worse than me. Now I don't feel so bad.

I have...

6 Desktop Towers

  1. Gaming rig/main computer: I7-6700k + GTX 1080ti + 16 Gigs ram
  2. FileServer/Youtube computer while playing games: i5-6600k + GTX 980 + 16 Gigs Ram
  3. Folding/@Home project computer #1: i5-3570 + GTX 780 + 16 Gigs Ram
  4. Folding/@Home project computer #2: i7-4770k + GTX 1060 + 32 Gigs Ram
  5. Folding/@Home project computer #3: (Previously my fileserver) QX-9650 + GTX 960 + 8 Gigs Ram
  6. Folding/@Home project computer #4: Core2Quad-9500 + GTX 780 + 6 Gigs Ram

1 All in one

  1. iMac (27inch late 2013) I believe it has the i7-4770 in it (or something close, hyperthreaded quad core i7 at 3.5 GHz) + GTX 780M + 32Gigs Ram. This computer is basically my programming/console/scripting computer and it also runs @home projects, just only using 2 cores or else it'll heat up too much. 2 Cores keeps it about 60-70C which is fine with me. It also has my itunes which syncs to my phone and all of my music analysis software.

2 Laptops

  1. Dell something or other with i7-2720QM and NVS 4200 (I think)
  2. A unibody MacBook from like.... 2006

Now, I'm not by any means rich, I just got super lucky with 90% of these things on craigslist. For example, I got the 4770k and 32Gigs of ram + nice gaming motherboard + nice air cooler for $200 CAD. I got both 780s for 180 CAD total, for 2. I got the GTX 760 for I think.... 60-70 USD back in the day, and the 960 for 90 USD. I got the 6600k in a bundle with a nice mobo and 16 Gigs of ram, and CPU cooler for $200 CAD. Honestly I paid more for the one mac than all of computers 2-6 above put together, but it was still a good price. (It was top of the line in it's day, easily a $3000-$4000 computer, and I think I got it for $1200 because it has a SLIGHT dent on one corner and a very.... very tiny crack on the same corner of the bezel (not even on the screen.)

I actually have the parts to put together another LGA 775 computer or two, but I don't have the cases for them and have started phasing my 775 computers out because they simply aren't worth the power they use for folding/@home projects with newer and more efficient technology.

I also just built my sibling a 6600k + 760 machine, both of which I acquired cheap as well. They don't game, so a 760 was fine for anything they'd need. Maybe a casual game here and there.

Far too many. At least 20.

This includes only working computers and only systems which actually have a case. Not lose motherboard/cpu/ram without case or hdd, I have at least 10 more of these.

(Ubuntu ?) means that it's a version of ubuntu from a few years ago but I don't remember when, often 11-14 as I've not had as much time for the old systems in the last few years.

Modern PCs:

Xeon E3-1230 v2 - 16GB RAM - R9 290 - Win 10

i7-5820K - 16GB RAM - GTX 780 - Win 10

i3-3220 - 4GB RAM - Ubuntu 18.04

2x Opteron 6140 - 14GB RAM - HD 7990 - Ubuntu 18.04

Semi Modern PCs:

(AMD) E450 APU - 4GB RAM - Win 7

(Intel) D525 - 4GB RAM - Ubuntu (version ?)

Pretty Old PCs:

Supermicro Server - 2x Xeon (2004ish?) - 1GB RAM - Ubuntu 18.04

Compaq Desktop of some kind (decommissioned, was XP)

OLD PCs:

Dell Dimension 2100 - Celeron - 256MB - Ubuntu (version ?)

Dell Dimension (? but better than above) - 512MB - XP?

Dell Poweredge 1550 - 2x P3 Xeon 1Ghz - 1GB RAM - XP Pro

Compaq Proliant DL360 G1 - 2xP3 Xeon - 512MB RAM - Ubuntu (version ?)

Compaq Proliant 1750R - 2xP3 - 256MB RAM - Win Server 03

Compaq Proliant 1600 - 2xP2 - 1GB RAM - Ubuntu 18.04

Amstrad 1640 - 640K RAM - DOS

Laptops:

Packard Bell KAV60 - 2GB RAM - Ubuntu 18.04

Macbook Pro 3,1 - 2GB RAM - Ubuntu 18.04

IBM ThinkPad 390X - 256MB? - Ubuntu (version ?)

Not included is a PC and 2 laptops which I don't remember enough about and might not be in working condition.

I am down to 5. At one point I had around 20 older systems, but I had to downsize. There are a couple cases that I really wish I would of kept.

Main PC -> Core i5 4670K, 16GB DDR3, Win 7

Backup PC -> Core 2 Quad Q9550, 12GB ram, Win 10

2 older systems for classic games -> MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum ATX Socket 939, Athlon 64 X2 4400+, 2GB ram, Win XP & Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2, Athlon XP 2500+, 2GB ram, Win XP

Old print server from work -> Dell Dimension with 1.5 GHz P4, 1GB ram, Win XP and a failing HDD. I may replace the hard drive and stick Win 98SE on to it.

Hello all.

I have two desktops, three laptops, two android tablets, 1 chromebook (I'm not including it in the laptop count as it is feels like it should fall between a true laptop and a tablet), and 3 smart phones in my household.

I have three and am thinking about selling one since I feel like three is too many. I was curious how many other people have.

Basic desktop for for family to use, the one in my specs for personal use, laptop for personal use when working as i travel 5 days a week for work, a Panasonic Toughbook issued by my employer for use on my inspections those are ones that are reguilarly used. I also have a Raspberry Pi 2B that is seing no use since i got a chromecast, and an old Dell Inspiron n5040 that i can't seem to get working.

Nothing to see here, move along

I have 8, although I only use 6 regularly.

1 work laptop, not technically mine but I still do work on it from home

1 laptop that lives on the sofa

1 main desktop (using synergy to control the other 3)

3 spare desktops (2 using threadrippers and one crappy one)

2 spare laptops (almost never use them anymore but they are good spares to lend to other people)
+ a nas if that counts for anything
