CDPR is part of the company that owns GOG so they would never ever sellout to epic exclusivity.

It'll likely be the same as TW3

It'll be on GoG, Steam and perhaps a few other storefronts. Wouldn't be surprised if it was on EGS as well albeit not as an exclusive.

It will probably be on Origin too, Witcher 3 is there. They put Witcher 3 on almost as many storefronts they could. Not saying many would get cyberpunk 2077/got Witcher 3 there, bit it is there and it's good for consumers.

CD Projekt Red normally tries to maximise sales by being available on as many stores as possible. Origin, GOG and steam.  Like Witcher 3...

Most of their sales are likely from Steam, with GoG in second.

But yes, CDPR's strategy is very pro-consumer. They may not sell nearly as many on Origin, but it gives people the choice of where to get their games from and this should be respected.

The closest real open competition that Steam has is GOG. Locked content on Epic is not competition. If you can buy something exclusively on one platform you are not competing against anyone. Same goes for Steam if they ever go this route. Needless to say that Steam has a lot of anti consumer policies as it is.

Just realized your comment is from 2 weeks ago. Oh well.

It'll sell well if it was available on multiple storefronts. Limiting themselves to one, smaller and objectively inferior storefront is only going to hurt sales.

Look at CD Projekt RED. The Witcher 3 was available on Steam and GoG alongside even fucking Origin. The sales on Origin likely didn't hold even a candle to the sales on GoG, let alone Steam, but CDPR is respecting the rights of consumers to buy wherever they want by releasing on as many storefronts as possible.

Deep Silver has not. They did a bait and switch. They advertised the game as being on Steam and then suddenly announced the game as an Epic Exclusive only 2 weeks before launch, having to stick a heap of stickers on top of the already-printed retail copies as a result.

It's cool, just like I am not entitled to force them to sell it on all platforms they are not entitled to my money. Seems good to me

Exactly.

Now Of course not every independent developer will choose to be on so many so many store fronts. But some devs do. And it is critical that they retain the freedom to do so at any time. Even if it something as simple as deciding 1 month after launching the game that they want to diversify to one more store to boost sales by a few thousand copies... They or their publisher should retain the right to do so.

This would not be possible if not for the fact that so far neither GOG nor Origin nor Steam ask any 3rd party dev to sign an exclusivity contract giving up their rights to be on another PC store.

Let's say Epic has their way and in 5 years they become the dominant PC store with 70% market share and most devs signing exclusivity contracts. At that point when another small competitor crops up most developers will not be able to support them with day 1 launches because of their contracts with epic. Imagine what we would say if the dominant player today Steam started telling indie devs that if they want loans or favourable terms they have to remove their games from GOG/Origin etc. We just shouldn't allow PC gaming to go in that direction.
