Do I need a good graphics card for a game server box?

patcat127

Title says most, I'm going to use my old PC parts as a game server to host minecraft servers for my friends, possibly discord bots and other things like that, likely running a linux distribution if I can set it up properly... my old CPU it'd be running off is an AMD cpu from before the days of integrated graphics, would a cheap, budget level card be enough (basically, do server programs like that need GPU power?)

find a cheap GCN GPU

like hd 7850 is a cheap unit.

anything 7800 series and beyond. essentially.

its GCN which will give you driver support for quite some time. also Linux is somewhat AMD centered

edit: from the used market mind you

Short anwswer: no

Long answer: It depends. A minecraft will typically not use any GPU power (like at all). Depending on which OS you'll go with you won't really need any graphics output at all. I run a server on my headless Ubuntu machine, which I can SSH into, as such my server doesn't need any graphics output. MC servers mostly depend on your bandwith, RAM and CPU, not much else.

75% of what I say is sarcastic

So is the rest probably
