FPS drops

Jeff H

My specs

gtx 1070 8gb Sc

ryzen 5 2600

hyper x 2x8gb 3200 mhz

MSU b350 mate

stock Amd cooler

1tb harddrive

corsair rmx 650 pcu

I can game fine with no FPS drops on ultra settings (bf5) when I don’t have discord open but when I do my FPS drops even on medium settings. Why could this be happening? I see my disk drive tends to be a little high sometimes so maybe getting an ssd?

Disable the Discord overlay if it is enabled, for starters.

SSD may help if you are in tons of servers or servers that people upload stuff to.

So do you think an ssd could help in game performance if I play bf5. Because if I just have bf5 and discord open what would be using all the disk space?

Its not space, its the Discord app taking TIME away from the games level/asset streaming component.

So your saying that disabling the overlay should fix the issue?

Overlay may fix it if its just taking GPU resources away.  If that does not fix the problem, a SSD will likely help.

Try disabling the setting that uses GPU acceleration for Discord, if it isn't already disabled. Try an SSD next.
