i9 9900k question

so i currently have a i7 8700k in a Asus Maximus X code motherboard overclocked to 5ghz, been considering grabbing the 9900k, but im not sure how well it will perform on a z370 board compared to my 8700k. i currently use my rig for gaming mainly

i7 12700k/Asus Tuf z690/32GB Corsair Dominator RGB 3200MHZ/EVGA 3080 Ti FTW3 Ultra/Samsung 980 Pro 1TB/Asus 2540x1440p 165hz Gsync/Acer 2560x1440p G Sync 144hz

If all you do is game you'll barely if at all see improvements with the i9 9900K, after all the i9 is literally an i7 8700K with 2 extra hyper-threaded cores.

 

98% of games won't care for the extra threads.

2 extra cores means more thermal output, so despite the extra OC capacity of 9th gen you'd probably have the same clock speeds and therefore no benefit.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

How many watts do I need? ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explained, group reg is bad

Don't upgrade. #1 You'll have to jump through hoops with a BIOS flash since only z390 natively supports 9th gen whereas z370 boards require a flash. #2 The 8700k already has hyperthreading + 6 cores (9700k doesn't have hyperthreading, only the 9900k : ( ) so you would not see a big difference between the 9900k and the 8700k. Put that money towards something more beneficial like extra RAM, extra storage, a better GPU etc. etc. etc. Maybe even a better motherboard but the Maximus X is already a damn good one.

yeah i might use it to upgrade to 32gb ram from my 16 then as i just recently picked up a Asus ROG strix RTX 2080 Ti
