2016-18 MacBook Pros are suffering from "Flexgate"

if you are still using a 2 year old macbook, going for 3, you need to reconsider your priorities.

Actual real solution:

get a new, 2018 macbook temporarily while you wait for the 2019 one

It's not Apple's fault if you open and close it more than the necessary.

I still use a 2013 retina and it works like a charm for what I want from it.

2011 user here. although mine is affected by the well known gpu problems known as radeongate, i 'fixed' that by forcing it to run on intel graphics only.

i also have a 2012 which works totally fine...

Macbooks had GPU problems as well, and took them awhile before admitting to the "radeongate" thing.

It was just an example of a laptop that will last past the warranty, and compared to these newer macbooks other laptops have much fewer issues.

yay, another design fault i can go to the applestore and get a free repair regardless of what they say i have to pay (providing i bought it from them).

because consumer protection laws says so. if they make anyone pay this in my country they are essentially scamming.

though im shure it will be handled nice. i dont have a device to test with however

Posting most of the Apple news, although still agreeing with Apple on quite a bit of it.

But maybe get something actually well made for the money, like a Thinkpad and hackintosh it. I can't blame people though for buying a mac and selling it after a year or so, the resale values are stupidly high even on the models that have known hardware faults.

The resale values in macs are just stupid. Macbook Air early 2014: dual-core i5 1,4Ghz, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD, original price ~900€ 2018 resale prices 450-650€, just what?!? If that was anything else than MBA it's resale value would be around 200€ probably even low as 100€ or less comparing to the very small storage. Probably 2016 MBPs resale easily for 800-1000€ and probably broken screen lowers that with 100-200€ and probably other laptops with similar specs resale for half the price easily and with broken screen they are basicly sold as junk around 100€.

So here's a question for you:

How much money (or percentage of total revenue) does Apple make selling computers, vs how much they make selling iPads, iPods, iPhones, other disposable toys?

And btw, iPhones and iPads are some of the lest likely to be disposed of tech you can buy. iPhones last 5 years+, same for iPads.

Yes, but in EU it's 2 years, in Norway it's *up to* 5 years on stuff that is supposed to last longer, and laptops get 5 years.

EDIT: Some other countries in EU also have longer than EU minimum laws, but not all.

i don't think it's a lot. Apple hasn't been prioritising the Mac for a while. you can notice that in the OS. we got a redisign with Yosemite, and with Mojave we got a dark mode. other than that there hasn't been much in terms of features.

i would even go as far as if you set Mojave to the light theme and put it side by side with a system running Yosemite you wouldn't be able to tell the difference unless you start to look closely and notice small things like siri not being there.

its minimum 3 years, but the most typical devices go under 5 years.

The revenue stream is so small it wouldn't surprise me they cut R&D and quality funding to build a laptop. It also wouldn't surprise me if they shitcanned their entire line of computers in the next few years, given the vast majority of cash comes from everything else.

Obviously it's because they're new products are riddled with so many issues nobody wants to buy them so they all just shuffle around with older better built models and that keeps the resale value high.

Now, I actually don't give a sh*t about Apple but I mean they are the "richest" tech Company in the world but still can't manage to release at least one product that has no flaws. I mean, who are their engineers ? Fricking Geniuses ?

You can take a look at all of the Tech that I own and have owned over the years in my About Me section and on my Profile.

I'm Swiss and my Mother language is Swiss German of course, I speak the Aargauer dialect. If you want to watch a great video about Swiss German which explains the language and outlines the Basics, then click here.

If I could just play Videogames and consume Cool Content all day long for the rest of my life, then that would be sick.
