Post Your Battle Stations and Build Setups!

Recommended Posts

So today I finally gave in and got myself an RGB LED strip for the back of my desk and I must admit, that I do love it!

Specs:

Samsung c32hg70

Logi Master MX2

Genius SW-G2.1 1250

ROG XXL mouse pad

ASUS Z87-PLUS

Intel i7-4770

GTX760 2GB

2x8GB DDR3 1666MHZ RAM

Kingston 256GB SSD

INB4 yes, I know the build is stupid. Weak GPU to strong CPU, that's not K variant on Z series board. Facepalm. Rookie mistakes. Next build will be much more balanced.

Sorry for the bad photo quality, but my phone's camera is not good :<

Main PC:

Intel Core2Quad Q6600 @ 3.6 GHz ASUS Commando (P965 Chipset)

8GB of DDR2 800 Memory (4-4-4-12)

GTX 660TI (i know it will be bottlenecked by the mainboard and the CPU)

If you think it's a bottleneck, have you ever looked into the BSEL mod? It'll push your OC abilities to around 3 and will increase your FSB a good bit.

I was rocking X79 untill last year! Still a super powerful platform for its age.

Combined with a nice E5 Xeon you have one hell of a work/gaming station :D

Another cool topic to pull ideas from for future builds and mods.

It has evolved as I went along a bit starting out in a corner of my work bench and ending up with a shared desk and originally the only monitor I had was the HP 2311x. that looks very nice when you put the evga 1050ti super sampling to it but it was just the start then I added the sceptre 4k  27" to it and it really didn't impress me ass much as I hoped but that's real 4k next to super sampled its a wash and I see why people say 4k isn't ready for gaming. so I then bought the 75 Hz curved 27" sceptre and the gas arm mount and its not a bad system for work or play now.

del OptiPlex 7040 i5 6500

8Gb ddr4 2133

240 Gb crucial boot drive

1Tb firecuda game drive

evga 1050Ti 4Gb

sceptre 27" 4k

sceptre 27" 75Hz curved

old trusty gigaware speakers

gas arm mount north bayou

all hooked up with display port 1.4 and hdmi 2.0 rated cables

also has my network switch netgear  gs105 siting on it with custom length cat5e all around to the server room I ran/made

I've moved everything again. Now I can run either the toolcase computer or the triple-boot HP Z400 workstation on my best monitors.

The central piece remains the toolcase indeed.

Since the Z400 hackintosh didn't need it anymore, the second desk has been repurposed for the XPS 15.

This is my very first build, so I'm not the most seasoned with this. I built this before I discovered Linus Tech Tips, and now I'm aware of what I did wrong with this build, and am planning to make a new one sometime in the future.

Isn't that an intel stock cooler? Pretty sure that's not a Pure Rock.

Also, consider mounting some side case fans. Just a tip.

That is one hell of a case you've got there! Very nice. Do you have any sort of build log or anything on that?

I'm in the middle of re-purposing some dormant hardware as a media center, I'll have to get some shots of it when it's ready to go! Still waiting on the new case to come in that'll allow it to fit next to my TV

Thanks! There's a link to the build log both in my signature and in the spoiler you quoted. Be sure to tag me if you decide to do some case modding on that media center.

Close enough, it's from a radio.

Ironically that's what I meant but I had to dump to desktop to send a friend a file, saw my wallpaper (which is a car) and managed to type car speaker instead of radio.

Hah! Thanks I'm blind today, I guess.

No case modding for me, at least nothing serious. Was lucky enough to find a case that would fit into one of the Ikea Kallax shelves cubbies pretty well, something I didn't think I'd be able to do with an mATX board, and without obstructing airflow. Lucky find tbh, I was thinking I'd have to switch to an ITX board or do some sort of crazy mod to get it to fit right.

My system built 2 years ago is still running strong. I mainly play Doom 2016 and Quake Champions on the highest Ultra settings. My newest upgrade is a new 24" G-Sync enabled display using the Acer Predator XB241H at 144Hz connected via DisplayPort. My complete specs are at PCPartPicker. (https://pcpartpicker.com/b/96JV3C) Anyway last week I threw out my old worn out corner tower desk and replaced it with a nice IKEA 55" Malm desk, which has a cable stowage management shelf built-in. I also added a big red hook from Walmart to hold my gaming headset under the desk, using one of the pre-drilled holes left over since I opted to put the drawer section on the left hand side. Overall I'm very pleased and nice to have a clean floor and see the wall with no spaghetti mess of wires hanging behind. Here are some pics:

I can only run at SATA 2 which is my bottleneck, but otherwise still plays the latest games at respectable FPS with adjustments. System has been upgraded over the years but the CPU, Graphics card and MOBO are about 12 years old, still have original invoices. Gigabyte claims that the MOBO can do over 50,000 hours. At the time it seemed like a lot but now, I think I am just testing their claims in real world.

Can give more pics or details on request, please let me know if you like haha. I also have a collection of Amiga Commodore 2000's and Amiga 500s and 300s with original monitor and some of the boxes, will post one day if I can get to them in storage! :)
