just wondering, how is the i7 920 holding up in 2017?

It does what I need it to do. 1080p gaming is not too shabby but it's really starting to show its age.

I am using this PC mostly as a media server now though and not much else. I do game on it once in a while but nothing too intensive. Will probably upgrade sometime next year :)

bad pics, it really does look a lot better in person but whatever..

Intel i7 7700k in an Asus ROG Maximus IX Code board

2 x 8GB Corsair Vengeance RGB

Corsair H 100i V2

Zotac gtx 1070 (triple fan non amp extreme version) with an exposed pcb/no backplate which kind of spoils the look a bit imo, oh well.

NZXT s340 elite matte black case

Samsung EVO 250 sata ssd for the OS and maybe another game or 2

Seagate barracuda 2TB mechanical drive

Thermaltake 650 watt semi modular psu (the flat cables, though all black, are a real pain to manage, the netted ketchup and mustard ones are way more malleable/flexible and easier to stuff away)

Lots of headroom for future upgrades, but this will do nicely for now.

Thanks! I've been hearing a lot of good things about the 301 and In Win in general. The watercooling potential isn't that great but it really makes up for it in looks!

Im looking to do a whole new build altogether if i can end up selling this one.. i was looking at the Corsair Crystal 460 or the Carbine 400C. What did you have in mind?

Never has a build /set up taken so long ...

DSC_0001-COLLAGE.thumb.jpg.f51348be653c9773a4ab92b957276339.jpg

My Asus Deluxe II X99 build has been complete for a few months now.  However still improving the whole set-up.

After two bad CPU's and having to RMA whole PC then wait for replacements.  Waited months for the 1080Ti to eventually launch. Then I have done more tinkering than that is healthy.   Good News... I'm getting their.

PC Specs:

CPU and Memory: i7-6850K@4Ghz, 32Gb Corsair Vengeance 3200Mhz DDR4

Asus GTX 1080Ti STRIX OC: It was 100% worth the wait. The core clocks to 1923.5Mhz out of the box. No Bios switches. No afterburner. Just pre-optimised for yours and my delight.

Performance is as expected 'Epic'.

Ghost Recon Wildlands (free game) on max settings averages 65fps at 1440p.  Doom 2016 ultra settings 160fps, Watchdogs 2 Ultra texture page never drops below 65fps.  No random crashing like my old GTX780 would do now and again (it used to hate some of these new fangled filtering settings).

The minor negatives I have with the Asus STRIX OC are:
You pay a lot for the small (but not insignificant) hike in performance compared to a regular 1080Ti.
The size of the card dwarfs the size of my now old GTX780 (GB Ghz edition). So check you have room in case first.
I know this is a sore point for many, however the aesthetics are beautiful. No photos does the card justice. RGB for the win.

It did cost a small fortune due to 20% tax in UK.  However I'm very satisfied with my purchase over all.

Corsair 760T case (with some standard Fractal Design case fans because the ones that came with H110 look and sound horrible.)

Corsair HX1000i PSU.  Corsair H110 all in one cooler -  with some Noctua industrial fans. (Chinese or Taiwanese? I have no idea and do not care)

Monitors:

Dell 27 ultra sharp IPS.

ASUS 279Q Swift 27" 1440p IPS OC 160Hz:
(Images quality as good as the Dell, might even be better and over-clocking to 160Hz for silky-smooth DOOM 2016 (@160 FPS ultra settings).

I think the swift it is an outstanding product, however........

WARNING NOTICE: There is a small amount of bleed in bottom right, tiny bleed left top-centre and top-right corner,  No dead or stuck pixels thank the Lordy).

And yes it is dreamy.

I have also noticed some text burn-in (like a green shadow) on the top left of screen only.  It does fade away after 5-10 mins. It is slightly annoying, not a massive deal in my opinion.  I think everyone needs to be aware of these issues. (for more info Google Swift 279Q some guy did a massive blog on potential issues and how to solve them)

Now using two separate Duronic monitor arms (DM551X2).  They only cost £40 each from amazon and work flawlessly, even on the super heavy Dell.  Just tighten the tension screwy on top and it works a treat. Hopefully they will last.

Peripherals:

Corsair K70 RGB Rapidfire Keyboard (this is so much better than the non RGB K70 I had previously.  No dead LED's so far, fingers toes etc crossed)

Razor Death Adder Chroma  (Good mouse, hate synapse software splash screen at boot.  Rubber on mouse wheel is slipping  which is annoying, need some super/ rubber glue).  Using my older Logitech G400s again for time being.

Logitech G933 Headset (surround sound never really works using cans).

Onkyo SR-607 Home Cinema.

Q Acoustic 3020 (wall mounted speakers) and 3070s subwoofer (tucked way behind desk).

Will use my old Eltax floor standing speakers with my TV once I purchase a good cheap stereo amp.  I just cannot part with them, they have been in my life for over 10 years and still work perfectly.

Honourable mentions:

Virgin Media Fibre/Super Hub 2ac  for Internet (+200Mb down and 12Mb up, need to phone them and discuss Gamer bundle).

Nvida Shield Pro TV box, Pixel C tablet, HTC One M8 mobile and 5 year old Samsung 42" HD LED TV (was not an informed purchase back then).  It works fine.....do I really need a 4k TV?  Can I wait for OLED to come down in price?

Oh and look what we have here: Ergohuman Plus leather desk chair.  Silly money for a chair, however only time will tell if this was a good purchase/investment.  You really cant put a price on ones health. :x

What is next? PC lighting needs improving (one strip should do it) Need to do some cable tidying for whole room.   Really, really need to do something with these bare walls.  Some floating shelving and some tasteful wall-art is desperately needed. Drill and paint brushes at ready.

So... I had a dream from the very beginning when I first bought my PC for myself. Surprisingly after over 3 years of usage the only thing that was changed in it was the GPU -> r9 280X from HD 7850... ANYWAY
I wanted... no... I DREAMED OF a good Eyefinity setup from like "Day 5" of owning this Bulldozer machine of mine.

And last Friday It happened. Let me introduce to You my beloved triple surround setup... which is far from typical xD
So in the middle: LG 29UM67P ultrawide.
At sides: duo of Samsung SyncMaster 193Ps

Why tho? And how is it?
Why? These are ALL 75Hz native refresh rate parts. THE FEELINGS ARE FLAW-MOTHERFOKER-LESS. DAYUM.

How? With Eyefinity's Preffered Display set to the ultrawide, Eyefinity type set to Overscan and with DisplayFustion panning help... STRONG 9/10 AF.

Result?

4x 1280x1080 windows or eyefinity games, or 16:9/21:9 media consumption while monitors at sides can be turned off.

The FOV scaling is perfect for me - 5120 vs 5760 from normal triple monitor setup makes not only less strain on GPU, but makes models appear less streched. :3

Problems?

There is one. I actually misclicked at currently have 5120x1084, cuz the right SyncMaster one is lower by 4 pixels than mid or left monitor. xD
Also Crimson ReLive drivers has some issues or my FX 8320 can't properly feed frames to the GPU. I'm most of the time locked at 20-60% utilization on my R9 unless I reset game profile before turning it on. ^^'
