maybe wanna hook up the 290 to the loop , the ref card is a bit hot and noisy

( I run one myself and well , while not being SUPER LOUD , its still definitely loud compared to the rest)

When gaming hard ( Doom4 etc ) I see about 65c on the CPU, I'm still on stock clocks though but boosting to 3.9GHZ.  Have not OC'd it due to having to buy it with a Corsair VS 550 PSU, only in past month got it an EVGA G3 650.  But I'm not after being greedy for the games I play on my 21:9 I don't have issues?

the ram is cooled but it is also just for looks, I know ram doesn't get that hot any how but looks cool i thinnk, but if you look at the cpu i used the block from a cooler master siedon aio cooler to cool the cpu and also that is my second pump, and yes i agree with you that the 290 is loud and hot, i sold it awhile back and now have a gtx 1080 and a corsair hydro v2 aio, the 1080 is held back allot in some games even with my fx 8320e at 4.75, so i will either go intell or ryzen. wich ever i can put together for a decent price and hopefully stay with the red and black theme

I'm so hoping for this too. G3258 has balls, but GTA V gives it massively blue ones. :/

And 4790K's still go for a lotta money for whatever reason.

don't you think it be good to give intel some competition so the prices drop and we the consumer benefit? i mean if it even works out that way. reaper cooler would also be nice lol

Definitely, I just hope AMD can keep up the momentum with whatever Intel drums up to complete directly vs Ryzen.  Perhaps an extreme clocked lineup called Zombie...

I'm impressed with how ballsy the G3258 is honestly. The only game so far that's truly hammered it is GTA V.

Yeah, they are a niche little chip, but can be quite capable, especially when OC'd. I was able to get mine to 3.8 on a Gigabyte H87N ITX board, which is still a decent jump. ;)

Yeah, it's not worth upgrading if you're on an Ivy or Haswell i7 at this point. The performance jump is just not enough to justify the cost, IMO. I honestly wasn't expecting such a huge difference going from the i5-4570 to the 4770K @ 4.4 in gaming, but man, it really unleashed the 1070. I should post up my benchmarking results. Some games saw as much as a 20-25+fps increase.

I've pushed mine up to 4.6. It used to do 4.9 at a slightly higher voltage but it's degraded since then. :/

@MEC-777, you should have seen the jump from my FX 6300 to my i3 6320. The benchmarks say they are somewhat equal, but in real world testing, the i3 is so much smoother and has so much less stuttering.

I suppose adding a second 970 probably helped too...

@tmcclelland455, I could only really get mine to 4.2 with voltages I was comfortable with, but maybe that's because I also used an H97-itx board with no VRM cooling. How does it perform at even higher clocks?

You got it! Straight out of my 1080.

What are the temps like?

After finally getting all the parts and the PC assembled I did run some ROG Realbench last night. That whole tiny box puts out some serious heat with the CPU and GPU running together. The GPU (980Ti)was running in the low 70c range and the CPU was in the low 80's.

I still have to do some tweaking to lower the temps, the CPU voltage was running at 1.350v, I would like to get it to 1.250v or under while hopefully with a small overclock. This PC will be primarily gaming and media consumption so realbench was more heat than it will realistically be encountering.

13 hours ago, MEC-777 said:

That is a 1070/1080 Founders cooler. Very innovative. :)

If it can handle a 150-165w+ TDP GPU, I think it could handle a <100w TDP CPU just fine. ;)

Exactly what I was and am hoping will be the case.

Pretty well, honestly. IIRC my CB score with the core at 4.6, cache at god knows what, and RAM at stock 1600CL9 was something like 330-336. Legitemately 1440p isn't entirely out of the question with this little guy (I pretty much exclusively run The Crew at 1440p ultra and 99% of the time my 7950 is the one at max, though the G3258 often isn't far behind).
