Post Your Battle Stations and Build Setups!

My mom got this computer a year ago for Christmas because it was only $150. $150.

I was excited, as I did not know much about computers except for the fact that more RAM makes them faster.

I discovered Linus Tech Tips and started to learn more about computers. As I learned more about them, I learned how bad my computer was, along with the SSD and Graphics Card I put in here.

SPECIFICATIONS

AMD Athlon II X2 B24 at 3.0 Ghz (Twice as slow as a G3258)

4 GB RAM

GT 720 (Don't get me started on what a waste of money this was)

120 GB SSD with 450 GB HDD

Honestly, it was good for web browsing and other light tasks. However, I became a power user and started playing more intensive games (Like Minecraft, because I can hardly pull 30 FPS Average on here).

Here it is at idle:

p8sHU9L.png

Other than the 12 Chrome tabs I have open, this is idle.

This hurts.

I will get a new computer by saving up money over this first part of 2016 with Christmas,  my birthday, and hopefully a small job (That last one will be hard since I am 14).

Here is what I hope I will get: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hbcDP6

looks clean, I like it. Even though I haven't owned a reference AMD card in awhile, I look at the picture and can hear the humming...

I know. The problem is that this is effectively idle for me as it is the least intensive thing I do and I do it all the time.

I haven't closed chrome in a week.

Weird. Maybe sometime you could try pushing it in really hard (you've probably already tried this, lol), I actually think I pushed mine in way too far :P

Have you got the motherboard standoffs installed? Have you put the I/O shield in the right way around?

I had a problem like that that I didn't fix until two and a half years after this build was "finished".

Basically, me and my friend were tired after working on this thing for a few hours, and we just got to the point of wanting to get this working, more than wanting to get this in as good a state as possible.

The motherboard was hanging off from the top for a long LONG time, essentially causing flexing of the motherboard, but not enough to really cause severe panic. We couldn't even align the IO properly, chiefly because of a wire that was obstructing one of the standoffs. It was left unscrewed for well over two years.

After dealing with an old 2010 Macbook Pro that could barely handle running Skype or Microsoft word. I've decided it was time to bite the bullet and get a new laptop this year. After watching through some of Linus' videos I've decided on getting the MSI GS70 Stealth Pro in Red. However much to my surprise its price jumped to 2k..but low and behold that may have been a blessing in disguise due to a brand new model being cheaper. May I introduce. The GS70 Stealth Pro -006

Its main features include an-

i7-6700
970m
16gb DDR4 Memory

Here is an album of this bad boy if anyone is interested. (Not quite sure how to embed it here due to being used to xenforo)

What are your opinions on this laptop? Could I have gotten a better bang for my buck?
