Can I replace my 970 with a 1070 with this motherboard/cpu?

Go to solution Solved by Nolanl83,

yes.

So, this is my current pc:

Ram: 16 gb ddr3

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 3

Cpu: i5 4690k

Gpu: gtx 970

If i replace the 970 with a 1070, would I have to replace anything else here too?

No, you shouldnt Aslong as the you have enough PCIE Express slots you should be fine. I had an I7 5820K with a 960 running in one of my builds and just upgraded to a 1060. My only suggestion would be to check your power supply and make sure it can handle the 1070

I had that exact CPU with a 1070 and ran into CPU bottlenecks while playing AAA titles like Witcher 3.

According to the Nvidia specs page yes,

1070 should have atleast a 500w PSU

970 should have atleast a 500w PSU

For the CPU you have, the only video card that makes sense is a 1060 as your CPU is holding you back for a 1070 or 1080 or the RTX line.

Now you can grab the 1070 as future investment when you get new mobo cpu and ram one day you will have your 1070 and it will perform soo much better with a better CPU and what not.

His full load with a 1070 will use up about 400 watts, so yes 500 watts is the sweet spot, just in case in the future you get a video card that has high TDP.
