HDMI 2.0 144 hz?

I ordered a Asus Strix RTX 2080 but my monitor only has DVI and HDMI and no displayport. Is it possible to get 144hz with hdmi 2.0 cable or do i need some speciel adapter ?

The XL2411 doesn't have HDMI 2.0, so no, you can't use HDMI for 144Hz. Only dual link DVI. You'll need an active DP > DVI-D Dual Link adapter. NOT a passive one or a single link one.

HDMI 2.0 has the bandwidth but... according to BenQ's site, 

 

it says "1920 x 1080 at 144Hz (DVI-DL)" in the description, leading me to believe that you would need a DVI-DL cable, and that HDMI will only do 1080p60hz regardless of the cable.

You can just connect it, up from HDMI 1.3 you get 144Hz

HDMI is a sketchy standard, that's the issue. Support for resolutions and refresh rates needs to exist on both ends.

 

I'd generally consider DVI deprecated and DP the new standard for high refresh rate and resolutions in general.
