big gpu upgrade - no performance upgrade?

So I just swapped out my gtx 970 with a msi rtx 2070 armor oc and when I ran Cinebench it just gave a lousy 2 fps increase, so I'm wondering if either, there's a problem with my new card, or my other components simply arent strong enough to support such a big upgrade.

 

Intel Core i5-4460 Prosessor

MSI B85M-E45, Socket-1150

Corsair CX750M, 750W PSU

16gb ram

Uninstall GPU drivers using Display Driver Uninstaller and install a fresh GPU driver

As Daniel said try and reinstall the drivers. Otherwise it can be Cpu bottlenecking. The 2080TI bottlenecks on a 8700k if not at 4k resolution.

Use DDU to COMPLETELY remove the old drivers.  Then install the new correct drivers for your new GPU.

 

The bottleneck wont be huge with that CPU and certainly not what you are experiencing.  What you are experiencing is old drivers still on your system you haven't removed, from my experience.  DDU takes care of that.

Cinebenchs GPU test is a complete joke, my GTX 1080 Ti scores were worse than my previous 980Ti, if you want a real test use 3D Mark or in-game benchmarks.

 

Edit: Worth mentioning that the CPU will be a bottleneck, it's not a big deal but just so you are aware. I still would stick with that CPU though.

it will be simple as this, that 4 core cpu was at max usage already with the gtx 970 going to a 2070 was a mistake. upgrade um cpu board and rams and you will be golden.

Ok will try to uninstall drivers, thinking of i5 9600k, and 16gb 3000mvh ram, will this be a good fit?

If you really want to upgrade your CPU, I recommend you get an i7 that will work on your current board.

 

That will easily solve your issue, all while costing less than a full platform upgrade (DDR4 is still expensive).

@Fortniteboy69  nothing unusual for the Cinibench test. You need 3dmark Firestrike or unigene Heaven for better tests.

 

My old GTX 970 beats my 1070 by 2 frames in this test also.

My best bet is that it's a bottleneck. The i5-4460 wasn't the most powerful CPU at the time it was released and it isn't now. 

First try reinstalling drivers (make sure you erase previous drivers with DDU) and if that doesn't work then I'd imagine it's just a bottleneck.

Yeah but you'd be better off picking up an i7 4790 from ebay. You'll see the difference.

But no, a new i5-9600k will not work with your motherboard, as others have said I would get the i7 (k skew assuming your motherboard supports overclocking) from your generation of Intel's lineup, used CPU's won't be overly expensive at all and you will get a good performance bump.

Ive ordered MSI Z370-A Pro, Socket-1151 and together with a 2070 and i5 9600k ive seen some impressive oc results, and my budgets kinda tight so

A new gen i5 will be plenty compatible with your GPU should you replace the motherboard and ram. 

 

Me personally, unless you are budget limited which is A-Okay, I wouldn't buy an old i7 that will be useless in another year or two (not useless but not performing well) when you could get a Ryzen system for way cheaper than intel and be good to go for years. 

 

Whatever you do I suggest you upgrade the entire system if you are going to upgrade your guts of your PC.  And sell your old RAM, MOBO and CPU to recoup some costs.

 

Again, if you are budgeted though the i7 is a good idea, but has to be one that fits that socket type.

So I did what you recommended me to do, downloaded ddu(without internet and in safemode) deleted drivers and downloaded the newest version on geforce exp.

 

This is the results I got from 3dmark and I'm not impressed, does this look normal? Or can I conclude that I wont achieve good performance without upgrading the rest of my rig?

I have a i5 4690k and rtx 2070, and in most games(gta online is the only one where i dont see perf gains), i have insanely much better frames than a 970. Then again, i might get similar scores in cinebench to you, since i only have a i5 4690k and havent tried that

 

 

It just really depends on the i5, while mine will show bottlenecking on cpu intensive games, some like the i5 9600k wont.

I don't use 3dmark myself so I cannot answer this question directly - I use Unigine Heaven Benchmark to see my 3d score - Ive just never used 3dMark

why don't you compare online, so you can see the comparison to other pcs?

I think this is a CPU issue. That score is really low compared to this with the same specs...
