Booting Windows 10 off of a external SSD

natediggity123

I was wondering if someone could tell me how I could boot windows 10 off of my external ssd I bought it from amazon and tried using the windows installation from the Microsoft website and it says that it couldn’t boot from an external drive and I tried going onto YouTube and searching it up it said to use wintousb so I used it and had to download the 3.5 version because it was getting en error and people in the comments said that just to download a earlier version and it worked and I booted from the ssd and it gave me a blue screen error and now I’m stuck trying to figure out what is the next step.

Just make a windows usb key and install it onto the ssd. DO NOT ACTIVATE as its a waste of a product key if you are gonna move it across pcs as a crude windows to go platform. It will not work if you plan to use a usb adapter on the ssd.

I've used https://www.easyuefi.com/wintousb/ since first party tools never work lol

I’ve tried it again and put it on my ssd and it was working fine and then it restarted and booted into the ssd and it was starting windows and it gave me a blue screen haven’t got to the windows installation screen yet.

Try a different USB port on the machine maybe? Never seen that before. It may be trying to load a USB 3.0 driver and disconnecting itself from the drive

I’ve tried it with 2 USB ports (all that I have) and it still has given me a blue screen
