What laptop to buy

Hi so I'm looking for a new laptop. Right now, I have a 5 year old Dell that served me well. Now I'm thinking I want a Chromebook, 11-12", and would love backlit. All the smaller Chromebooks however feel so cheap and I'm looking for something small and sturdy that will last me a few years. Maybe I'll have to look past just Chromebooks, but if there is a chromebook that is small, durable and has backlit, would love to know about it! My budget is about 500, but I'm willing to go over if it's worth it, and under if it doesn't sacrifice anything on my list.
