A 27" 1440p will show more detail than a 24" 1080p one.

Lots of games will run fine at 1440p, even with budget hardware.

No, majority of people use 1080p monitors afaik.

If your question is "is 1080p or 1440p better for gaming?", it depends on a variety of factors such as the monitor size, monitor refresh rate, your framerate,  the games you're playing, etc.

Not everyone has the budget for an ultrawide monitor. And not all games "support" ultrawide resolutions. And that doesn't answer the OP's question(s).

If you look up the statistics are like 20% of screens are 1080p and 9% are 1440, it is really difficult to get accurate data because it takes into account all displays made. I have a 1440p 144Hz G-sync monitor as my main, I've also had 1080p 144hz monitors before, if you are going to be watching movies, playing AAA titles or editing I would say go for 1440p if your setup can handle it. Other than that you don't need 2k, just go for a 1080p monitor that matches your usage, if you are into competitive gaming just go for 144, 160 or 240hz.

Once I got 4K monitor there was no way I'm going to play in any lower resolution ever again.

I dont even know what my monitor is at now, probably 1080P not too sure how to even check it.

Yup I am rocking 1080P in HDMI at 1920 x 1080 and 60Hz on a 27" which is huge for my desk, but its good because I could be your peoples grandfather, very likely so by the rate I was shagging decades ago.
