Looking for a cpu cooler for an 8700k in a inwin 301

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

As the title says, I'm currently looking for something to replace my h100i. The biggest issue is space, I had to remove one of the fans on the h100 to fit a msi rtx 2070.

Spoiler

20181226_171958.thumb.jpg.875380db059a6b0be42878ace95fc186.jpg

Max cpu cooler height is 160mm according to Inwins site

The current coolers I've been looking at are the Phanteks ph-tc12dx, Arctic Freezer 33 esports edition, or something like the deepcool captain 120ex.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Stuff a Noctua NH-D15S in there. It comes with a single fan (second fan can't fit anyways because of RAM compatibility, unless you mount it at horizontally), and I can fit one in my S340 Elite which also quotes a max cooler height of 160mm.

My NH-D15S (with chromax fan, same size as the stock one) in my S340 Elite (side panel fits on fine with a few mm of clearance):

Should juuuuust fit and it's pretty much the best air cooler you can stuff in there, other than the Thermalright LGR RT:

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/B8rcCJ/thermalright-cpu-cooler-legrandmachort

Which is 159mm tall vs the 160mm an NH-D15S is with a single fan.

Thermalright Le Grand Macho RT, huge but feature really good compatibility, 159mm height, no RAM conflict, no PCIe conflict, 1060gr weight, silent, top tier performance, relatively cheap for its size, short warranty.

Can you measure the clearance available between the rad and the graphics card? You might be able to fit a slim 15mm fan instead like the NF-A12x15.

I'm not entirely sure but you might be able to mount fans on the outside of the front panel fan bracket as well.

There's only a 3 mm gap between the radiator and the gpu. As for mounting the fans on the other side, you can but you run into the same issue that the wall-mart pc had. 3-4 mm air gap.

What are your temps? It still might be worth sticking with the current cooler unless you want to shell out for a large air cooler since it should still be at least as good as a 120mm rad with a single fan.

Is there anything behind the solid front panel? There seems to be almost ~23mm of clearance after installing a 15mm fan in front of the rad.

Temps are in the upper 60's to low 70's while playing bf4, upper 20's to low 30's idle.

Yeah, I was wrong.. There's a 28.5mm gap between the front of the case and fan mount. With a standard fan installed it leaves a 9.5mm gap for air.

After looking online, seems most people mount the fans between the front panel and radiator as exhaust fans...
