GTX 1070 ti needs a CPU..

Hi everyone,

I have composed a incomplete build on pcpartpicker.com, and I have all of my parts picked out except my CPU. My choices are the

AMD Ryzen 7 2700X (8c, 16t, 4.3ghz) [amazon.com/dp/B07B428M7F/?tag=pcpapi-20&th=1], and the

Intel Core i7 8700K (6c, 12t, 4.7ghz) [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B428M7F/?tag=pcpapi-20&th=1]

I'm going to be pairing it with a GTX 1070ti, 32 gigs of RAM, and a 750w PSU. I'm having trouble because I've heard of the old rumor that AMD processors can tend to overheat, but I feel that Intel processors can be a bit pricey.

Enjoy your day!

too vague, could be problematic.

Atm Intel CPUs kick out more heat (still the case comparing 8 core 2700X to 6 core 8700k), and whether a CPU overheats also depends on the cooler.

CPU: i7-2600K 4751MHz 1.44V (software) --> 1.47V at the back of the socket Motherboard: Asrock Z77 Extreme4 (BCLK: 103.3MHz) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 RAM: Adata XPG 2x8GB DDR3 (XMP: 2133MHz 10-11-11-30 CR2, custom: 2203MHz 10-11-10-26 CR1 tRFC:230 tREFI:14000) GPU: Asus GTX 1070 Dual (Super Jetstream vbios, +70(2025-2088MHz)/+400(8.8Gbps)) SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB (main boot drive), Transcend SSD370 128GB PSU: Seasonic X-660 80+ Gold Case: Antec P110 Silent, 5 intakes 1 exhaust Monitor: AOC G2460PF 1080p 144Hz (150Hz max w/ DP, 121Hz max w/ HDMI) TN panel Keyboard: Logitech G610 Orion (Cherry MX Blue) with SteelSeries Apex M260 keycaps Mouse: BenQ Zowie FK1

Since when does Ryzen overheat? If anything, Intel has more of a reputation for that. Anyway, the decision depends on what you plan to be doing with the computer. Intel will give you the best gaming performance available with the 8700K, but AMD gives better value and productivity performance due to higher core/thread counts.

"uhhhhhhhhhh yeah id go with the 2600 its a good value for the money"

It's probably something he read but it was related to the AMD FX-series processors. Nowadays it's Intel which run hot and draw more power though.

As for OP's question - The choice should be AMD in ~90% of cases with the current lineup that's on the market. What do you need the CPU for? What will you be using the PC for?

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT 16GB GDDR6 Motherboard: MSI PRESTIGE X570 CREATION
AIO: Corsair H150i Pro RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 Case: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic PSU: Corsair RM850x White

Hey guys,

Sorry about the late response (WiFi was down)

So I'm gonna be using the Thermaltake Floe Riing 240 AIO water-cooler, and (if it helps), I'll have a 360gb SSD, and a 3TB hard drive

I want to use my PC for mostly gaming (around a 120 fps) for most light games like Fortnite and Minecraft, but I might also use it for a bit of Black Ops 4, and also some video editing, as well as schoolwork. I do in fact have a list on pcpartpicker.com (PCPartPicker)

[My motherboard won't show up so here it is - Amazon.com - MSI Performance Motherboard B450 Pro]

(P.S. I also can't decide on my GPU [GTX 1070ti or RX 580], so there is no GPU listed in the list, and I will start a forum in the GPU section)
